Tannic fruity marriage in a glass. This is a great Spanish blend predominantly Grenache at 54%, Cabernet Sauvignon 29%, carignan 15% and Syrah 2%. It’s fruit forward and bold with a heavy backbone of tannins. After a little bit of decanting this wine really opens up and becomes lovely. Drink now or hold for up to 6 more years.

Dark red cherries and other fruits that pack a wallop on the palate. Keeps you coming back for more, and I'm glad I decanted this bad boy.

The Pasanau family are perennial growers in Priorat, with vineyards located in the highest municipality of the region, literally skirting the sheer rock wall of the Sierra de Montscant. A blend of 50% Garnacha, 20% Merlot, 20% Syrah & 10% Mazuelo and aged for 6 months in oak. Ruby with dark berry aromas and smoky spice. Cherry & Plum flavors with herb pepper notes. Big tannins, medium finish ending with smoky mineral tones.

Magníficos taninos, fruta muy expresiva, fresco pero intenso en boca. Lleno de vida y muy, muy agradable.

A wine slightly discombobulated yet obviously finding-its-way. It’s an old soul who is still young and wants to be Courtney Love. Like it’s not damaged but it has enough edge to aspire. Earth of old world and ridic ripeness from those llicorella soils. A very red Garnacha. Don’t know how it will age but think it has a little while to get all the flavors to make friends. Either way a wine with interest.

An order of Carthusian monks first found their way to Scala Dei in 1194 at the invitation of Alfonso I. The name "Scala Dei" means "stairway to heaven," and a visit through these transportive ruins remains a critical first stop if ever visiting the region. While monks no longer work the cellars, the Scala Dei wines remain solid - and often a relative value in comparison to those who've arrived in the last half century. Prior is Scala Dei's mid-tier of their three Priorat reds. High octane flavors of licorice, pepper, black plum, violet, and blueberry find balance with spicier, more elegant tones of sandalwood, rosewater, frankincense and gingerbread. While 15% abv, you’d never know per the bright acidity and chalky tannins - yet there remains, a warming medieval intrigue that conjures romantic images of hearthstones and velvet. A nice showing from Priorat’s pioneering monastery.

Full-bodied and generous in structure. Expect chocolate, dark berries, and spice with this wonderful Grenache blend.

The most international-style bottling from Scala Dei, in terms of oak profile and varietal composition. Needs some air at this stage
