From mag, and still alive in its deep golden-hued glory in its second decade. Chardonnay / sauv blanc blend, separately vinified in half botti/ half stainless, partially blocked malo, aged on the lees. It all contributes to a long-lived, rich white with decent complexity and robust mouth-feel.

Marmalade and apricot, soft nose needs time to open? Palette is a different story. This wine is a lurking beast. Strong full rich entry, maintains its muscle midway through before the powerful acid structure whacks me upside the head and sits like a bomb on the tip of my tongue. Concentrated, beautiful tension.

The Bastianich Vespa Bianco 2012 is a showy and rich blend of 45% Chardonnay, 45% Sauvignon Blanc, and 10 % Picolit. Beguiling notes of bruised pear, ripe nectarine, dried mango and orange blossom honey lingers heavily in the air above the glass, like a warm day in mid-summer. Dark gold and luxurious, there is just enough acidity to add lift to its decadent, creamy texture. Finishes with a hint of fennel pollen and of a sprightly dash of minerality. 14.0 ABV | Sample

Full, Rich, floral, finish leans bitter. Very friuli.

Full bodied and with the age it’s lovely. Surprised at how low this is rated. Had it with fairly strong tomato based seafood sauce on linguine.

An unapologetic blend of sauvignon, chardonnay and a smaller part of the local Friuli grape Picolit. Ripe pear, pineapple, grass, lemon plum, cream cheese, curry leafs, ginger. Might be a few years of bottle age or skilful blending and winemaking (or both) but this is rather complex. Bravo!
