Leather. Smoke. Tobacco.

All of the things that I love about a wine.

However! (And it’s a big however)… this needs another 5 years.

It could only be one thing.

Had an ‘09 left in cellar, last time I had this classic Barolo was 4years ago and it needed lots of decanting, produced from of 100% Nebbiolo grapes. Medium Ruby with a bouquet of berry fruit aromas, mostly cherries, with earthy herbs. Aged in large oak cask for 2 years, on the palate complex flavors with cherries, stewed plums, blueberries, leather, earthy herbs and a hints of smoke and spice. Crisp acidity with tannins, still tight, gave the wine elegance & structure on the long finish. This Barolo still has room to age! Nice!

Violet, lavender, reductive, sour and juicy red cherry, mint, crushed stones, game, ash, mushroom too. High acid, high tight tannins, full body. Wait another 10 years...

Solid but narrow Barolo. Color is muted. You can see the thinness in the glass. The fruit is good if a bit sweet on the front end and a bit puckering on the back end. Likable but not memorable.
