Friday. Chard-nay. Sorry I just needed that to rhyme. Good Cali Chard is a beaut thing. I’ll stop the abbreviation and silliness et cetera. Jk I’ll only stop the RIDIC abbreviation maybe. Logical abbreviation I’m dtf.
Okay let us be serious. At first pour there is a delightful reduced gassy gunflint thing. And all sorts of baked pomes (note to self taste more quince) and then you taste and the oak is there for sure. It’s like, let me lift you up dear fruit notes. And the fruit says cool just don’t kill my thunder and the (25% new French) oak says “I got you”. The oak lifts the fruit and the fruit relaxes in the oak’s arms and they are a triumph while their friend malolactic conversion applauds. What a wine time. Forrealz. Oops, I mean for sure and for real, with all my Chardonnay-loving heart.

Vintage 2017 / minerals, vannilla, stable. Powerful. Too overwhelming for my taste

2015, a touch green apple and just a kiss of goal. Not too bad for the price

Citrus, gardenia, buttery but not overly. Big and rich. Well integrated, balanced.

10-12 years ago I really liked this chard, but I now find these buttery, oaky versions just too diffucult to enjoy...any citrus or minerality goodness is covered up by the post vineyard manipulation...
