The Traveller Fort Ross - Seaview Sonoma County Pinot Noir 2019

Silky and lush with just enough acidity in the front to make it interesting and lively. A really special North Coast gem. — 5 months ago

The Balvenie Distillery

Signature 12 Years Old Limited Batch Release Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Unreal herbaceous depth here where rosemary and allspice hide their monstrous love child. Black, white and green peppercorns blast from a hollowed core sample of graphite, and igneous matter just above the roof of hell. But fear not mystic traveller, this is simply the expanse that shields the event horizon through which our universe has fallen. Yes, we are scorched and terrified, our very bone marrow boiling, our teeth dressed in ash cloth and dusty black earth, here is the golden hand of life pulling us back slowly, with tangerine lavas, smoldering lemon oils, to cardamom, hazelnut oil, the oxidative brawn of sherry, toffee, mocha and finally the cool kiss of mint, as we leave the burning sands and cross into the unexpected joy of the dangerous jungle. Better here in the tangle of living cruelty, where there is shade and dark water. — 6 years ago

Pago De Los Balagueses

Vino de Pago Garnacha Tintorera Merlot 2016

So much promise. It needs time in the cantina though.

Roja fruit.

James suckling must be a time traveller because he said it’s a 94. He’s probably coming back to 2020 from 2028.

Oakridge

864 Block A6 Willowlake Vineyard Chardonnay 2012

Mid Lemon in colour. Notes of Citrus fruit more than stone fruit. On the palate the wine making techniques using sulphur post fermentation to prevent malolactic conversion and preserving high acidity was used. M plus intensity on Palate but in the leaner style compared to Margaret River. Wine Maker David Bicknell was just awarded the Gourmet Traveller winemaker of the Year. — 8 years ago

Giant Steps

Tarraford Vineyard Chardonnay 2011

From the difficult 2011 vintage - worse for reds rather than whites in the Yarra Valley. This was fuller bodied than expected and quite delicious. Redolent of carefully balanced stone fruit and oak. From The recently awarded Australian Winemaker of the Year from Gourmet Traveller - Steve Flamsteed. An old Toowoomba boy! Well done Steve. — 9 years ago

Joshua Cooper

Ray-Monde Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019

My first Joshua Cooper wine - had to check out the Young Winemaker of the year for 2020 awarded by Gourmet Wine Traveller magazine. Joshua has recently turned 32. This wine was quite rich and dense and a little closed aromatically - obviously quite young. Ripe plum, rose petals, with a little vegetal matter. - a big future ahead. Joshua has had wide experience with Australian wineries and in Burgundy with Domaine de la Vougeraie and Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron. This wine from the cool climate Macedon Ranges with high profile neighbours like Bindi and Curly Flat. — 4 years ago
