Lots of jammy fruit, less peppery. It really fleshes out well over a couple of hours. Good everyday value. — 5 years ago

At Victoria's, great with crab cakes, and steph likes. This is a really excellent wine. — 7 years ago
2013 Ontogeny Proprietary Red is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Petit Verdot, and 10% Cabernet Franc, coming from some of Russell Bevan’s favorite vineyard sources – Sugarloaf Mountain, Two Dogs, Tin Box and Tench. Quite flavorful, it is exhibiting slightly more new oak than some of the other cuvées, but is still sexy and opulent, with voluptuous texture, low acidity, and oodles of juicy, succulent black and red fruits, licorice, underbrush and a touch of vanillin. An already irresistible beauty, it can be drunk over the next 20 years. — 10 months ago
Blinded a dear buddy in the wine trade on this tonight, guesses all over the place, in a great spot, want to see this in 10+Y.
72H Update:
Nose has crushed blackberries, ripe plum, dried plum, dried tart cherries, moist mahogany and faint moist soil. Palate has tart plum, light molasses, blackberry compote, faint leather notes and fine tannins. Not as good as day one, but no slouch on day three. A wonderful experience, many years in the bottle to go ahead. — 4 years ago

Straight-up California cab with firm tannins that need to unwind a bit; fruit is well-balanced and lingers lightly.

My husband is a scotch drinker, but, this was given to him as a Christmas present last year.
He landed up opening it up last week to try, and really liked it. He’s had a glass every night so far.

This is wine turned out to be a rare find in the US, as it's acreage is waning in it's birthplace, Germany, and even Japan (ca. 250 ha.) plants more Kerner than Italy (ca. 83 ha) does!
A 1920s cross between Trollinger (red grape) and Riesling, this grape, similar to Sylvaner, boasted a racy, fruity and way nutty/earthy/leathery flavor with a showy acidity. I was quite pleased with this find here on the West Coast and enjoyed every sip of it. — 9 years ago

Now this is Pinot Noir the way it was meant to be! Floral, more subtle and less in your face like Meomi or Belle Glos. The nose is shy upon opening but after a couple of decanter days, it’s really come alive! Excellent with pork or salmon and turkey, it’s great for sipping or pairing. The mouthfeel is excellent and the flavors linger long after your last sip. Never thought California Pinot could be so authentic tasting. — 8 months ago
