Medium cherry red color with violet accents. Fruit absolutely bursting on the nose with strawberry candy, lemon tarts, and the ripest blackberry I can remember from a wine. And the funk, oh the funk. It’s not nearly as pronounced or dominant like say on a good Burgundy, but rather it’s lurking in the background the entire time. Waiting to pounce.
There’s a huge difference between a simple, thoughtless wine and a deliberately uncomplicated one. This is obviously crafted with care and a total understanding for what the end product should be. Half Zinfandel, half Carignan this is probably the lightest Zin I’ve ever tasted. It’s so buoyant and fun. All the zestiness that you’ve come to expect from a natural wine.
On the palate, there’s more candied red fruit, hints of rosemary, rhubarb, and dried herbs. Cinnamon and rhubarb join the party too. I hate to be one of those people but this is the perfect wine for summer. Chill it, pop it, drink it. That’s all. Just let yourself fall into this and enjoy it. You’ll be glad you did. — 4 years ago
On same tasting purchased this great Zin. Many people don’t know that Nils Venge had the first 100 point wine in Napa Valley. Saddleback is a hidden treasure with soooo much history. This will age well for years. So well balanced with great structure. 🍷🍷 — 3 years ago
Some people don’t like Zin this age. We enjoy the port-like aspect this one developed. Great with broiled salmon. — 4 years ago
Excellent, spicy zin. Great winery and great people! Originally did a virtual tasting, and Coravined. Couldn’t resist finishing! — 4 years ago
Classic Zin. The earth in St Helena has a lot going on and Chase delivers it nicely. Delicious dry farmed Zin classic flavors. Low key, smaller cellar if you prefer and I do. Nice people, nice view, nice wines. — 3 years ago
Zin goodness. Classic Zin goodness. It’s like the well worn blue jeans of Zins. Comfortable, friendly, familiar and casual. That’s a lie I hate blue jeans and really like this wine but I hear normal people do like jeans, very blueberry, vanilla scented, and there’s so raisins and licorice to boot. Oh maybe this is the perfect pair well-worn boots. As opposed to jean. Yeah that’s it.
On another note, has anyone actually worn blue jeans or boots since pandemic? — 4 years ago

This has officially topped any other Mexican wine I’ve ever tasted. A blend of Syrah, Nebbiolo, Petit Verdot, Cab Franc and Zin from Valle de Santo Tomas in Baja California. Very silky and very well integrated. Art in a glass! This is the kind of bottle that makes believers out of people. — 2 years ago
