Duckhorn Vineyards

Estate Grown Block 8 Rector Creek Vineyard Merlot 2002

Wow. Was kind of expecting this to be a bit further down the hill, but what a great surprise. Definitely in the “drink now” category, this is an absolutely classic example of what Duckhorn has done so well over the years: making interesting, layered, terrific merlots. No doubt due in part to attention to detail (check out that 15-year-old cork!), this wine has a degree of liveliness on the palate that I never expected given this wine’s age (and after an hour this is still going strong). I haven’t had a Duckhorn wine from a vintage more recent than a decade ago, but if they’re still making wine like this...wow. — 3 days ago

Pouilly Fume Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Great example of Sauvignon Blanc - light on its feet, mineral packed, exhibiting a bouquet of lemongrass, white pears, underripe grapefruit, white pepper, jasmine, and a zip of acidity to brighten it up. — 15 days ago

Ridge Vineyards

Estate Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2013

Delectable Wine

Perched high atop the North Atlantic plate in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Ridge’s Monte Bello property boasts a rich lineage that goes all the way back to the 1880s. Even today, the drive up the winding roads that lead to the top of Monte Bello is arduous. It’s virtually impossible to imagine what conditions must have been like 130 years ago. Ridge's 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is fabulous. Beams of tannin and acidity make a strong opening statement, but there is more than enough fruit to fill out the wine's frame. This is an especially dark, virile Estate. Then again, that is 2013. Inky blue-purplish fruit, licorice, sage, exotic spices, and lavender grace the exquisite finish. This is an absolutely delicious mountain Cabernet endowed with real pedigree and class. It is also arguably the single greatest value in California Cabernet Sauvignon. Freestone Vineyards Chardonnay 2012

Lively, complex nose!! A whiff of something from my early youth that I can't quite recall yet. Lemon, tropical fruit, and herb flavors. A great tartness which is really hitting the spot. Medium to long finish. I really like this! Great QPR based on what I paid! — 9 days ago

Domaine Delaporte

Chavignol Sancerre Pinot Noir 2015

A nose of cherry, metal and barnyard almost gamay-like . The palate is wonderful. Long acid backbone, fruits (blackberry, raspberry, cherry) vanilla, the wine rolls. There is a metallic touch in the end too, much like the one you can find on foillard's côte du py. Amazing Sancerre and great value — 10 days ago

Pickberry Vineyards Red Blend 1986

Still big, still with dusty and grippy tannins. Fruit in the background - this is herbaceous but not green, rustic but not coarse, and sunkissed but not overly ripe. A small bit of VA mars this, and I don't know if the tannins will ever really resolve. A fun taste of old California. — 7 days ago

Money Road Ranch Rosato di Sangiovese Sangiovese 2016

After my first sip, my words were “I wish I had more of this.” Holy smokes. This is hands down one of the best rosés I’ve had out of Cali (alongside the Arnyca rosé). The acidity is so sharp out of the bottle. Love that! So many rosés are flabby and creamy. Kiwi and strawberry in the nose. Watermelon, cantaloupe, and plum skin on the finish. This is the epitome of refreshing rosé. I need to give credit to @Shawn R for gifting me this bottle from when we were together at his house a few months ago. Loved it, brother! Perfect by the fire pit. 👌 — 15 hours ago
