Sugre Pierre

The Trouble with Dreams Chardonnay Blend 2018

British, 60 Chard/40 Pinot Noir, aged in used Burgundian barrels. Plenty of floral aromatics, more fruit than brioche, & a very seductive palate of ripe yellow fruit like marigold apple & textured. Very good in a riper yet restrained enough style. Sells for about 50 quid, as my mum would say, but found on sale for 30$. — 25 days ago

Aspall

Draught Cyder

9.0

Medium dry cyder with pleasant straw colouring. Nice balance of carbonation that gives a good apple aroma. Crisp taste that is not too sweet.

Apples abound in this cyder that is from Aspalls meaning you know it is made properly and to traditional methods.

Harvey's Brewery

Easter Ale

GV
9.0

This is a punchy 6.8% but very moreish ale. Brewed for Easter, as the marketing says harking back to the strong ales brewed by the monks for feast days, this is a strong, dark amber, full bodied ale. It is malty with a good sweetness that balances the sweet malty sugars with the aroma of hops (Fuggle, Pilgrim, Cascade and Golding), and for me, a deep caramel aroma too.

It is is brewed with the local Sussex spring water Harvey's has used for over two centuries.

St. Peter's Brewery

Plum Porter

GV
9.0

St. Peter's is a fine brewery, and this Plum Porter is a favourite of mine. Deep, dark with a smooth as stout mouth feel with lovely plum overtones. One for a cold, wet winter's evening with some Pie d'angloys and Ribiola Bosina soft cheese accompanied by fig, sweet chili chutneys and beetroot, charcoal, and wheat crackers. — 2 years ago

Old Speckled Hen is a favourite. It's malty, slightly sweet with a nice hint of caramel. A good solid old fashioned English pint. — 3 years ago

Porter

Super porter from one of the long standing Sussex brewer.

A 1859 recipe that provides a smooth drink with lots of roasted malt and a balance of hops giving a little fruit, and sugar for a full-bodied beer.

Lovely pint of Mild on tap. Dark, deep colour with a nutty aroma and a hint of bitterness [in a good way] too.

St. Peter's Brewery

St. Peter's Honey Porter

GV
9.1

St. Peter's is a craft brewer who have a good reputation for quality beer. This one is a staple of the good folks in Suffolk with English Pale malts and ever popular Challenger and Goldings hops. This gives a pleasant traditional light English bitter with subtle caramel and toffee taste and aroma. Malt is light but distinctive as is the foamy head on this golden ale.

One for Summer ... and Spring and Autumn ... oh alright Winter too.

Recommended.

Aspall

Premier Cru Cyder 1715

GV
9.2

Aspall's cyder is a superb house and every type it produces is simple, traditional and very tasty.

Premier Cru has the colour of light summer ripened straw with a lovely deep apple aroma followed by crisp, dry taste.

Paired wonderful with fresh bread and a mature cheddar and chorizo cheese bake.
