Château de Fargues

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2013

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2013 Château de Fargues has a light bouquet for this noble estate: airy yellow plum, orange blossom and adhesive scent bubbling up with time. The palate is well balanced with unctuous honeyed fruit and fine acidity. It has a light tangy finish with a smudge of Seville orange marmalade. Perhaps on this occasion, I was anticipating a little more? (Neal Martin, Vinous, August 2023)

Venezia Giulia Ribolla Gialla

Wine Mouth Tues.

Ribolla Gialla from the Oslavia and Hum vineyards, vines aged 18 to 40 years, planted at 180–220 m, facing south and south east on ponca (opoka/flysch) soils. Harvested by hand first 10 days of October. Two to four months of maceration on the skins and aged four years in oak barrels (30 hl) then two years in bottle. TA 6 g/l, pH 3.7. According to Alex Simčič, 2012 was a warm year, less dry than 2011. Saša Radikon explained that you have to reduce production to get complete ripeness for this length of skin contact. Started green harvest early July, reducing the crop by up to 50% in 2018, for example.
Deep orangey gold. Amber bright. Fabulous aroma – so intense. Orange, Seville orange marmalade (but not sweet), ginger, dried grasses, reduced apricots, spice. Deep and chewy and fresh on the palate. Amazing intensity of spiced, dried orange peel. A contrast between bitter/sour fruit sweetness and the sour, salty complexity. Orange-infused tea. Firmly tannic but so well balanced by the fruit. The flavour lasts forever and it is so utterly mouth-watering. Juicy, salty finish even in a tannic wine and then all that lovely apricot-ripe sweetness even though it is dry. (JH) JR18, 2012

Bodegas Muga

Reserva Unfiltered Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2019

A Very popular wine in every bodega in Seville, I've been to (three :) ). My seconda vintage (after 2016). It's rich and powerful wine: strong oak, vanilla (maybe chocolate), dark berries and pepper. — 9 months ago

Jai Alai India Pale Ale

One of the finest ipa’s available. Smelling it, you might think Seville Oranges, but this is no marmalade. It’s resinous, bitter, but not over the top. You always want more.
Paired with spicy coconut shrimp, ya!

Munjebel Terre Siciliane Bianco Carricante Blend

This feels like what all of the best “funky” orange wines without extreme skin contact are gesturing towards, their platonic ideal. But it isn’t a static edifice of an ideal, rather a great vibrating energy vortex, changing from minute to minute. Marmalade, spot prawn heads, salt, new sneakers, gooseberries, Bacardi limon, pickled red onion, sherry, green tomatoes, curry leaf, Hoja Santa, cilantro stems, seville orange. Enjoying on my first Father’s Day while Hugo and Kalen take a nap. Sichuan Impression delivery on its way. — 10 months ago

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Rosé 2006

2022/2/27 with dinner from Narisawa. There was a lot going on here - initially preserved plum and bitter cherry, followed by Seville orange and spiced berries, and finally layers of strawberry tart, brandied cherry, yeasty brioche, nutmeg and clove. Quite dense and intense on the palate, with lots of extract, minerality, and acidity. Initially there is a pleasantly bitter twist, but this softens into something more saline. This definitely feels like it could unfurl further, but was pretty captivating now. — 2 years ago
