@James Forsyth I have seen that style of combo cork before... But can't recall the producer, you're right, it's not common.
@Severn Goodwin agreed. I can imagine that it has certain benefits. I'd be interested to know more. So much of our wine enjoyment rests in the hands of cork performance.

Good small bubbles, yellow color with a nuance of straw color, bright.
the scent was composed of caramel, sponge cake, peach, Muscat and yeast.
Smooth sweet and fruity attack, juicy acid, comfortable bitterness.

The producer is an octogenarian who works in Friuli and has dedicated his life to the discovery, preservation and promotion of near extinct grape varietals. This white has brightness with saline qualities and honey notes. Fresh and floral, it is a lovely wine for the summer.
One other thing: the cork is a composite of two different cork types, the traditional cork sadwiched between the reconstituted type. I don't think I've seen that before. — 6 years ago
