Sparkman Cellars

Ruckus Red Mountain Syrah 2012

One of my favorite wines of the night. Still packed quite a punch for the vintage, even after being left out for a few hours. Absolutely stunning wine. Still is a bit hot with alcohol but a lovely wine. — 7 years ago

Iron Horse Vineyards

Wedding Cuvée Sparkling Blend 2012

This really brings the ruckus for a domestic sparkler. A mostly blanc de noirs at almost 80/20 Pinot Noir to Chardonnay. The copper color is quite distinctive, and after your eyes adjust, the fashion of it is quite taking. Bing cherry and stone fruit are laced with Meyer lemon and served of an almond paste. A simply brilliant balance of fruit, citrus, and nut. The secondary baked biscuit confirms its equal standing with many of the prominent Champagne house’s basic cuvées. — 7 years ago

Turley

Cedarman Howell Mountain Zinfandel 2015

Turley’s Cedarman features Zinfandel from both Rattlesnake Ridge and Dragon Vineyards high atop of Howell Mountain. A small amount of Petite Syrah from Rattlesnake Ridge is also added. A savory underbrush or garrigue is immediately evident on the nose and sets the scene for the lush and wild mountain fruit to come. Black cherry and black raspberry brings the ruckus, while the layers of flowers, crushed rock, orange peel potpourri, and incense reverberate around the palate. Fabulous purity and concentration. Another reminder of how much I love mountain fruit. — 7 years ago

Guarachi

Sun Chase Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2013

Really ripe and super rich, with a gregarious demeanor and an almost larger than life personality. Distinctively unconventional with an unmistakable cadence, and completely infectious. This is the JB Smoove of Pinot Noir (or Leon Black, rather). Massive black cherry, lavender pastiche, and loaded with bramble fruit. It brings the ruckus (to the ladies). — 7 years ago

Cave de Tain

Grand Classique Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2015

My night before a 10k across a bridge wine.
Decanted for a few hours.
Nose of working farmyard, decomposing, wet hay, and animal ruckus.
Medium bodied with well balance dark fruit, mint, Greek oregano, hints of anise, riverstone. Ending with a long lingering finish that puts the oak and acid at one with each other. Nicely balanced, young , but hey, aren’t we all at heart?

K Vintners

The Cattle King Syrah 2013

Two notable history lessons could be taught with this wine. The first being how the elevation of Snipes Mountain was just high enough to preserve its geological record during the Missoula Floods which marked the end of the last ice age, about 10,000 years ago. The second being the story of Ben Snipes, the Northwest Cattle King. Chasing gold up the Oregon Trail, Snipes arrived in Yakima Valley in the 1850s and saw the potential for raising cattle, and would eventually build an empire of 125,000 heads of cattle. K Vintners Cattle King (which also includes some Upland Vineyard juice from Walla Walla) has been on a run lately, receiving 99, 98, & 99 points for their 2012, 2013, & 2014, respectively, from Jeb Dunnuck. This brings the ruckus. It’s like eating a blueberry BLT while going 100 mph in a 15 passenger van and listening to Queens of the Stone Age in Juárez. — 7 years ago
