Turley
Cedarman Howell Mountain Zinfandel
I either love or hate Turley wine. She has so many styles from extreme over extraction and full throttle alcohol, to beautiful, elegant and light on its feet. I prefer the latter usually, and this one was pretty darned close. Elegant, refined, alcohol was high but well hidden, and a bouquet of ripe red fruits, smoke, Spanish cedar, tobacco, and gravel. I was super into this wine. Yum - thanks Mike Ancuta, great pull!

Dec 11th, 2018Anything with Howell Mt. in it seems to agree with my palette. Lush. Full body. Cinnamon meets raisins meets forest floor.

Jan 3rd, 2018Turley’s Cedarman features Zinfandel from both Rattlesnake Ridge and Dragon Vineyards high atop of Howell Mountain. A small amount of Petite Syrah from Rattlesnake Ridge is also added. A savory underbrush or garrigue is immediately evident on the nose and sets the scene for the lush and wild mountain fruit to come. Black cherry and black raspberry brings the ruckus, while the layers of flowers, crushed rock, orange peel potpourri, and incense reverberate around the palate. Fabulous purity and concentration. Another reminder of how much I love mountain fruit.

Dec 18th, 2017Mid for me. No spice. Lots of tannin. Missing depth and richness.

Jul 5th, 2023Big big wine that was best as after dinner and quasi dessert wine. Not sweet but just the dominant expressive fruit. Like spiced blueberry and boysenberry. A meal in and of itself. One of my favorite vineyard blends from Turley.
