Ripe, rich dark purple juicy juice. These wines need a couple years to lose their baby fat and integrate the alcohols, tannins, and abundant fruit. But California Zin rarely drinks better. Ripe blackberry, black cherry, hints of stem, touch of oak masquerading as tobacco and leather. Long, smooth finish. Only a handful of California winemakers approach this level. Serve w/anything off the grill. — 2 years ago
Seems sweet at first, but drinks dry. Not tannic. Very good for colder weather. Enjoyed very much! Hints of vanilla and maybe cherry? — 5 years ago
Aged Yolo County Tannat. With a whimsical name. Dark color with a rusty edge. Smells a bit funky. Spike of berry liquor. Hint of wood chips. Flavors are very heavy on the black currant with a hint of plummy-ness. Might be a bit past perfection. Not as much as much tannin and funk as some Tannat, but has plenty of style. Drinks a bit like a French wine. Wonder who is using these grapes now that Rockwall is out of business? — 9 months ago
The label says it’s a rose. I think it’s actually a co-fermented field blend of white and red varietals. Drinks like a light red. Good chilled. Has a light spritz and a light, cider-like funk to it. Relatively light in alcohol. Almost reminds me of a piquette. — 3 years ago
Dark, deep purple color. Lovely aroma of roses, ripe red/black plums and wood-stove. Flavors are elegant and meaty. Some savory, chewy parts and plenty of bing cherry. Also has an inky streak. This is a great cooler climate Zin. Drinks a bit like Merlot, but has a hazelnut or chestnut thing that sings pure Zin. — 4 years ago
2/2024. Drinks well. Fruit , nuts and tartness. Easy for me to drink. Very nice with salty potato chips. — a year ago
Nice deep purple color, vibrant dark berry/cherry aromas with a hint of shrubby, funky, forest…brilliant hit of vibrant acidity, with medium weight or gravitas on the attack. Really balanced example of California Syrah w/o running the risk of high ABV or “jammy” viscosity. Fine on it’s own, but perfect foil with Paulina Market seasoned steak burgers, Mac and cheese, and late harvest MI sweet corn. Drinks like Fall —-and football. — 2 years ago
A wonderful fragrance of dark berries, spice, jam and leather!
Drinks really well, with soft flavors of cherries, vanilla, spices, leather and some jamminess! Finishes smoothly with a bit of pepper on the palate. — 4 years ago
