On the weighty side of GV. Abundant, supple fruit with some herbal notes. This comes together with a pineapple character on the finish and just enough acid to balance the fruity power. Very good. — 4 years ago

Massive 15.5% smackdown from Alicante. Strong thick slow legs. Full bodied. The nose is earthy with white pepper, hint of black licorice. Palate is interesting. Quite silky, immediate attack is dusty, supposedly like the terrain (late revision: this note subsiding over time); then big fruit, the end is a tad candyish with very little tannic grip. I had this with a light meal. It would have paired better with steak, or heat spice. Great wine, but Vatan is better in this price range for Spain.

Decanted for a good 2hrs and that helped smooth things out. Powerful and brooding with just a touch of heat. May want to revision 5yrs to see if it’s become better integrated. Fun components, just not all in full harmony just yet. — 5 years ago
