Same winemaker as Mount Mary Quintet — 2 years ago
On the flight from Dubai to Singapore . Ch Cos d'Estournel, 2004. Deeper core than the Quintet tasted alongside , less bright rim bordering on garnet , but young I suppose for the age , viscous legs . Classic cigar box , truffle and blackcurrant, cassis notes . Serious , cool vintage character. Lovely fruit on the palate , nice balancing acidity , cassis and darker fruits predominating. Tannins slightly drying , though this seems to be entering mid life they still may resolve . There is a nice quantity of fruit , but this does come across as an 'off vintage' , though I don't particularly like that term. Again elegant and reasonably long finish . An interesting pair of wines , this and the Mount Mary Quintet as it happens . — 8 years ago
A little recap from last week. And of course it's gamay and it's lovely. Served at home with strong moldy cheese, local plum jam and Miles Davis best, and second, great quintet LP box.
(flag decoration a tour present from a certain disco dad while on tour in Australia around 2007. Thanks again Mr. It still hangs in the kitchen.) — 10 years ago

Fine example of a Yarra Valley Blend. — 7 years ago
On the Lawn at Tanglewood this evening with the Wynton Marsalis Quintet, with very special guest performance by the Ellis Marsalis Quintet. A very exciting show, this will be the second time we've seen father (Ellis) and son (Wynton) together on these grounds.
A carbonated FLX Riesling, just perfect for today, great style, wish more producers would take this chance and do something fun like this with their wine. Please see my prior notes, still applicable.
24hr Update: Bubbles on the decline, but more of a fresh green apple-y Riesling today, not disappointed at all. 👍 — 7 years ago

From the Yarra Valley a Bordeaux blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot. 20 months in new French oak. Mid Ruby to garnet in colour. Classic aromas of cedar and cigar box with fading Cassis. A medium bodied palate with those smooth ultra silky flowing tannins. This is drinking well at 20 years of age. My last bottle. This producer has probably flown under the radar for many North American wine lovers as Robert Parker was never a fan with some of his Tasting Notes being quite hostile. The Middletons probably stopped exporting to the USA after that as they had no trouble selling their production locally and in the UK. The just released 2023 vintage was honoured with Australian Wine of the Year by The Australian newspaper and given 99 points by Wine editor Nick Ryan. Quintet is always one of Australia’s best Cabernet blends. — 11 days ago
