Pirque, Maipo Valley

Carmen

Gran Reserva Los Quillayes Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Deep ruby. Nose and medium-full palate of boysenberry, vanilla cassis, and dark rose. Fruit forward, but darker fruit and definitely not a “fruit bomb.” Medium minus acidity. Medium minus tannins. Classic Chilean style Cab with good fruit, but still enough earthy and herby characteristics to make for a nice all-around red. Great with grilled meats or hard cheeses. Drink now through 2027. — 7 days ago

Viña Quebrada de Macul

Clos Quebrada de Macul Domus Aurea Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Jan A
9.2

Domus Aurea "house of gold" single vineyard cabernet sauvignon out of the upper maipo valley. Brownish tawny color is showing first signs of age. Cedar, dry wood on the nose. Purple fruit and black tea leaves on the palate. There is a sense of freshness and also grippy tannins are looming over this wine. Not sure if this will reach the 96RP it scored but well made nevertheless. 2010 vintage — 14 days ago

Santa Rita

Reserva Especial Heroes Maipo Valley Red Blend 2015

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this blend! 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 15% Syrah, 7% Petit Verdot & 5% Carmenere. “Superb quality and craftsmanship are the hallmark of Santa Rita, one of Chile’s most admired and innovative wine estates. Heroes Red Blend is a wine with intense violet color. The predominating aromas of red fruits, such as plums, cherries and raspberries are complemented by very elegant and subtle notes of violet, vanilla, cloves and a touch of cocoa. The lush palate is fresh and juice with good depth and soft, ripe tannings.” — 5 days ago

Concha y Toro

Don Melchor Puente Alto Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

1 hour plus decant. Dark red color with a hint of brown edges. Nose has blue and black fruit with Shiraz characteristics. Wine is deep but fairly one dimensional with dark cherry fruit. Medium finish. Awesome texture and very pleasant. Surprised to see afterwards that it was 14.5% alcohol, as it didn’t seem it. Overall my expectations were slightly exceeded. — 7 days ago

Gran Reserva Los Maitenes Vineyard Merlot 2017

Black licorice, a little chewy. Warm and inviting. Give it plenty of air. Can be enjoyed with a meal or sipped by the fire. Served it with a beef stew and it held up well. — 5 days ago
