A Tale of Two Dudes Shiraz Grenache 2021

Ruby in color with a very wide reddish rim.

Spicy nose with red and black fruits, light oak, licorice, chocolates, spices, peppercorn and light herbs.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blueberries, black currants, black plums, cherries, light oak, chocolates, spices, coffee, licorice, light vanilla, tobacco and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a delicious GSM blend from Paso Robles. Spicy, juicy and interesting. Elegant and rich.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 30 minutes of airtime.

Feels like a New World red, with a twist of Southern Rhone. Interesting stuff. Fruit forward and complex

Will continue to get a better with age. Would be nice to revisit it in 3 to 5 years.

Easy drinking and good by itself or with food.

A blend of 75% Grenache, 18% Mourvedre and 7% Syrah. Aged in (40% new) Slovenian Oak barrels for 18 months. Unfined and unfiltered.

15.8% alcohol by volume.

Les Trois Fils Prince Edward County VQA Pinot Noir 2016

Tobacco. Smoke. A bit of red fruit…. Mainly raspberry. It really has come along after aging it a few years.

Overall: fantastic.

Looking up places to stay in PEC so I can go back to get this wine as we speak… Probably my favourite Pinot from there, or dare I say… Ontario.

Terry Hoage Vineyard Syrah Blend 2021

Pec and Burl Wines Terry Hoage Vineyard 2021, Paso Robles, California

Deep purple in color with a short purplish rim.

Strong nose of blackberries, black plums, black currants, light wood, licorice, spices, chocolates, herbs and peppercorn.

Full-bodied, bold and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and fruit forward on the palate with black currants, black plums, blackberries, cherries, oak, spices, licorice, tobacco, dark chocolates, herbs, dark coffee, light pencil lead, earth, light vegetables and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a very tasty Syrah based GSM blend from Paso Robles. Rich, concentrated and extracted.

This 4 year old is starting to drink very nicely now, although still young and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

This Single Vineyard GSM is fruit forward and powerful, yet elegant. The high alcohol is not too noticeable.

A good quality wine with good potential to become a 94+ point wine.

Good right out of the bottle and better with airtime. I gave it 90 minutes in the decanter to open up, and it's even better after 2 hours of airtime. As it opens up, the Syrah becomes more dominant.

Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food.

A blend of 60% Syrah, 20% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre. Aged in (70% new) French Oak barrels for 18 months.

15.8% alcohol by volume.

Cuvée No 3 Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Pec & Burl Wines Napa Valley Cuvée No 3 2021, California

Inky in color, almost black, with a very short purple rim.

Strong nose of blackberries, stewed plums, cedar, cooked cherries, sweet raisins, light vanilla, licorice, dried fruits, spices, chocolates, mocha and black pepper.

Full-bodied, smooth and bold, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and fruit on the palate with black currants, black plums, sweet blueberries, cedar, chocolates, light earth, herbs, spices, tobacco, espresso, peppercorn and black tea.

Long finish with fine grained tannins, cherries and red chili pepper.

This young Syrah from Napa Valley is starting to drink beautifully now. Rich and extracted. Fruit forward and elegant. Complex and spicy.

At this point, the Cabernet is very dominant, but the Syrah adds a noticeable twist.

Good right out of the bottle, and much better after 90 minutes in the decanter. Loved the nose once it opened up. The high alcohol is not too noticeable, although it is there.

Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. Has good potential to become a 95+ point wine.

Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food, like a big piece of steak.

A blend of 82% Syrah and 18% Cabernet Sauvignon. Unfined and unfiltered.

15.5% alcohol by volume.

Prince Edward County Pinot Noir

Love this wine. Not too acidic like a lot of PEC Pinot. Ripe strawberries and dried violets. Shorter finish than I’d like, but such a great natural Pinot! — 5 years ago
