Experiment N38 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2018

Excited to open this first bottle. A bit tight on opening, but 45 min later really opens up. Fruit is sweetly ripe, tannins soft and a bit chalky and perfectly integrated. Acidity and alcohol also really in line. Dark fruit, graphite, leather, pipe tobacco. Really nice and drinking very well with a short decant. — a month ago

Quite the white wine blend! My last bottle as I have enjoyed crushing these during spring time the last few years. I’ve much preferred the 2019 experiment to the 2020 experiment (which is heavy Viognier and Albariño).

Roughly 25 SauvB/ 13 Grenache Blanc/ 12 roussanne/ 12 Viognier/ 11 Albariño/ 10 Vermentino/ 10 Marsanne/ 5 Picpoul Blanc

Aromatically, this comes across as SB and Viognier…it’s bright and semi-tropical (white peach, underripe guava) with honeysuckle and lemongrass. Wonderful texture channeling a spine of acidity with mineral/wet rock, some honeyed green apple crisps, and a sea-salted lemon finish. Oak doesn’t make much of an appearance. Profile wise, this falls in between your traditional Cali SBs and the newer “Super SauvBlanc” styles. Lovely.

N: Big Smoky nose, hay, apples, sea, wood.
P: Burnt toffee..but delicate. Brine. A silk sheet, not a hammer. Very Chamomile, white flowers. Delicious!
An experiment w homemade crab-cakes. It works.

I’m not loving this. Some of the flavors are good but they don’t feel melded together. It has to be the Petit Verdot that’s throwing me off. — 4 months ago

Bought at the winery, cracked open for anniversary dinner. A rich wine, have decanted it for 7 hours and it’s still somewhat shy. Plenty of life left here, primary fruit and secondaries poking through the veil. Black fruit, cassis, olive perfume, sweet and woodsy nose. Texturally weighty, w/decent acid (14.8%abv), and muy picante on the finish. Spicy. — 2 years ago

Experiment C4.6 Clone 4 Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2016

Dark ruby. Red fruit nose. Medium bodied. Silky soft tannins even right out of the bottle. Fruit forward, lots of oak, earthy, mushroom, hint of dark chocolate on the finish. Medium finish. Drinking well now. — 2 years ago
