Old Weka Pass Road Pinot Noir 2016

See previous notes here on Delectable. Mid to pale ruby in colour. Pale yet powerful. Great aromatics of pansies, rose petals and violets also stalkiness. As Barb said the aromas of a beautiful garden. After a while an Animale, feral note not unlike some Burgundies we’ve had. Medium bodied palate - dried red fruits with a sweet yet savoury twist. A very polished new World Pinot by any measure. Tasters often identify with Central Otago and Martinborough for quality NZ Pinot Noir. Don’t forget about Canterbury in the South Island not far from the city of Christchurch. Luckily I have 2 left. Bob Campbell MW says drink through to 2025. — 7 months ago

That’s a good bit of age on a New world Chardy. Good to hear it was drinking well.

"Le Clou 34" Bourgogne Aligoté 2019

Boxing Day 2022 at OKH. Good balance of body and acidity.

100% old-vine Aligoté. The main plot in Corgoloin’s Le Clou was planted in 1934, and other older plots are included, with the oldest being one planted in 1902 in Magny-lès-Villers. Vinified and bottled completely without addition of sulphur.
“A pale lemon yellow, but more important is the heavenly bouquet, apples, lemon zest, evidently significant dry extract, fills the mouth, adequate acidity, and very persistent. An Aligoté of impeccable character.” Jasper Morris, MW

La Moussière Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2021

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2021 Sancerre La Moussiere was tasted as a finished wine still in tank and offers attractive purity and balance. There's tenderness through the mid palate, concentration and ripe fruit, which is no mean feat in the cool 2021 season. (Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, August 2022)

Ata Rangi

Martinborough Pinot Noir 2014

Red and black fruits - cherry. Generally muted on the nose, even the following day. A big Pinot on the palate - it needed to be with curried prawns with plenty of heat. The following day similar notes - a good accompaniment to strong flavoured foods. Medium + savoury notes on the palate , yet to fully blossom, with fine Sandy tannins. A couple more years in the cellar would be beneficial. 99 points from Kiwi wine scribe, Bob Campbell MW. — 8 months ago

Coriole

McLaren Vale Sangiovese 2021

Initial impressions were of bloody dusty, smoky aromas. A medium weight savoury palate with red fruits and savoury firm tannins although it is very young. I remember some years ago touring Tuscany with Peter Scudamore-Smith MW, who, at the time didn’t think any decent Sangiovese was produced in Australia. I think if anyone will do it it will be Coriole. They pioneered Sangiovese in Australia with the first plantings in 1985. This is a great food wine and a very good rendition of a new World Sangiovese. — a year ago

Thibaud Boudignon

Anjou Chenin Blanc 2020

Delectable Wine
9.1

Unlike his Savennières, the fruit for Boudignon's 2020 Anjou Blanc is purchased. The result is a pure, clean wine with delectable purity. There are delicate flavors of just-ripe pineapple, citrus, nettles and a subtle hint of vanilla. It is fermented and aged in both 500-liter barrels and oval Stockinger 'cigars'. A line of acidity pulls this wine through to a refined conclusion. It can be approached now for its fine fruit but will go on. (Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, September 2022)

Les Romains Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2021

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2021 Les Romains is a pure, clean and focused style. There's a delicate flint note on the nose and a precise line of acidity and push-pull texture on the palate. It's a firm style that speaks of its place - on the flinty side of Sancerre's fault line. There are no pretty florals here like you'd find on the chalk soils of Sancerre but a tension alongside greener-edged fruit. This is an assertive, vertical wine but not as nuanced. In time, it will improve, retaining brightness, unlike many wines found on the limestone, which are more immediately charming. (Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, July 2023) — 9 months ago

Clos Häuserer Wintzenheim Riesling 2019

Tasted at the winery. Made from 46-year-old vines, the 2019 Wintzenheim Riesling Clos Häuserer reveals an aromatic profile of well defined lemon zest, green and yellow apple, white peach and some blossom. This is a full-bodied, concentrated Alsace Riesling, made by France‘s first MW Olivier Humbrecht. The wine is perfectly balanced by zesty high acidity and closes with a long, lingering finish. Drink now until 2040. — a year ago

Les Chasseignes Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2020 Sancerre Les Chasseignes is a ripe and round expression with sweet pineapple fruit flavors. The limestone proportion of the clay-limestone vineyard brings tension and texture that lightly holds the mouth, providing a satisfying finish. It's a gently refreshing acidity, leaving a gently fresh rather than zesty conclusion. For drinking now to the medium term. (Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, August 2022)

Edmond Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2019 Cuvée Edmond is an outstanding Sancerre, but it has a price tag to match. It is already drinking beautifully with its ripe apple, white stone fruit and subtle savory characters enveloped within its succulent, round and concentrated core. The conclusion is a delight with a chalky coating covering the entire mouth and a fine line of tension weaving the wine together. (Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, August 2022)
