Domaine Jean-Michel Gaunoux

Grands Epenots Pommard Pinot Noir 1999

Still quite young tasting especially relative to the 96 corton renardes from gaunoux. Would love to revisit in 5-10 years and see what this grows into. — 18 days ago

Jean-Michel Guillon & Fils

Les Crais Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir 2015

Still not a fan of this domaine. Generally quite modern. Dark-fruited with evident oak treatment here, not dissimilar to Michael's 16' Block 5. I guess one would still call this a good wine, but simply not to my taste. I did like the subtle minerality in the wine though. — 6 days ago

@Peter van den Besselaar Multiple run-ins with Guillon but haven't enjoyed their wines yet. Will definitely try the Marsannay. How does it compare with Pataille's?

Domaine Louis Michel

Montée de Tonnerre Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2017

From the Passionfish list in PG. Light straw color. Tight nose. Notes of lime blossoms, some honeydew, chalky stones and a little green apple. Nice acidity in the mouth. Young. Needs time but served its purpose tonight. — 6 days ago

Apollonis Cuvee Authentic Meunier Brut Champagne Blanc de Noir

From a small grower who specializes in Pinot Meunier, with vines are planted in clay and chalk-based soils. A nice alternative from the usual blends, made with 100% Pinot Meunier. Intense aromas of red fruits and bread notes, nice mousse and bubble flow. On the palate juicy red berry fruit flavors with spice and toasty notes. Bold ending with toasty, yeasty, brioche notes, lingering on an elegant finish. Nice!

La Geynale Cornas Syrah

I first bumped into one of these in 2005 and it was incredible. 14 years on and its edges have softened up beautifully. I’m hopeful there’s another stray bottle in the cellar to revisit in the years ahead - 1999 — 18 days ago

I love it @Bill Bender ! Always nice to balance out order with a little chaos 😉 @Billy L. There’s a little stash of bottles and a hatful of magnums for Tui’s birthdays in there somewhere so she shouldn’t dehydrate in the years ahead... If you find yourself in this part of the world on the 5th of November I’m happy to share 🥳

Domaine Louis Michel

Les Clos Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2011

Light lemon skin color. Complex nose of lemon, custard, yellow and green apples, and not to forget the Chablis saline character. Very balanced palate that reminds of ocean spray and wet rocks. Very long finish. Hands down one if my favorite producers along with Raveneau and Dauvissat, at a fraction of the price. — 15 days ago

L'Âme Soeur Syrah de Seyssuel 2015

PnP. Dark purple color. Classic Syrah nose with dark cherry, a bit of plum, and more oak than expected. Deep but smooth, although more OH than I would I have thought for 13.5%. Fairly thick with a very long finish. Not sure I would guess France if this were blind, but pretty solid value. — 2 days ago

Vieilles Vignes Chignin Mondeuse 2015

Wow I don’t know of many wines that offer up the pleasure for the money than this beautiful wine from the Savoie -the old vine Mondeuse is amazing with savory black pepper spice and wild fruit 2015 on the vintage — 4 days ago

Cui Cui Cremant d'Alsace Pinot Blanc Blend

Had this at the Finch. Surprisingly great for being so cheap, very creamy — 5 days ago
