I adore Verduno and also import this wine. So I’m biased. But no fake news here. As good as any Verduno out there with apologies to Burlotto. Light strawberry color. Stunning nose. Roses, spices, sweet cherries, minerals, tree bark. So so good. Just inviting. Who needs chillable Gamay? Some leather as well. Just delightful. Even some white pepper. Palate is fresh and energetic with lovely elegant lights fruit and terrific transparency. Round but also fresh and earthy. Hints of raspberry iced tea, barely there tannins. Don’t think, just drink. — 5 years ago
An astonishing wine as usual. Nose is honeycomb, granite, yellow fruits and gras. So airy as well. Like ocean breeze. A stunning nose. It’s so subtle but it’s impactful. Palate is juicy and fresh with icing on the cake like texture and slabs of iced granite stay on your tongue long after it’s been swallowed. Stunning purity, depth and sap. Amazing length. — 3 years ago
Birth year wine number two, and this one is alive and well! 1967 Giuseppe Contratto Barolo. Another Wine Bid purchase.
I stood this up for about 3-4 weeks, but there wasn't much sediment. I did a 4-hour decant. In the last hour, I set the decanter in a slightly iced, water bath to bring it back down to the low 60s F.
Capsule and cork were nice and snug. I was surprised by the depth of color-- a fairly dark garnet to brick to orange to clear rim. See pics.
Nose: Leather, raisin, menthol, sweat, and subtle white pepper.
Palate: Medium bodied. Astonishing amount of well-ripe, dried red fruit on the attack, then a faint spearmint oddly enough, but not offering up too much more midway. But the leather seems to emerge. Acidity is still there, and the tannins are gum-drying. Alcohol feels a bit higher than posted. The finish lingers for while, a bit salty, then prunish.
I guess if I weren't enamored with the age and especially the year 1967, I would put this at about 91-92 points. But I will finalize at 92+. Looking forward to drinking more nebbiolo from this great year. Happy Labor Day 2020.

Orange juice, lipton iced tea made from powdered mix, castelvetrano finish. Woody resiny nose. Beautiful amber color. This wine feels really nostalgic and it's making me emotional — 6 years ago
grass, melon, iced green tea. delicious and airy. tempting to call it food wine because it’s so drinkable but has enough character to be a enjoyed by itself — 4 years ago
Amazing color. Peach, apricot, iced tea. A little nail polish on the nose too. Got some grip. High acidity. — 5 years ago

On with ABC. Five year old chard this time. Not as crisp as it’s younger counterparts and aging a little better than expected. There’s exuberant pineapple on the nose, palate, and finish, somehow it works… Not overpowering but refreshing, like pineapple shaved iced from childhood… High acidity, medium alcohol, slightly oaky and beginning to show sings of integration. Cheers. — 2 years ago
