Nebbiolo 2013

This has aged soooo well…a full 9 years from harvest and this gives all the joy of a warm climate Pinot Noir (SE France) - aromatics and acid team harmoniously to posture compelling food compatibility. This was sub $20 from total Wine and the aging experiment was a rousing success. A vein of minerality adds complexity to the dark berry compote like spiked Steeped Tea. Charming, if nothing else ;) real Nebbiolo, for the win! — 11 days ago

The Tower Series Norton 2018

Man I just love Norton - it is such a fun, expressive wine. It’s loud & boisterous and downright unruly, but it’s uniquely American. Inky and brimming with black fruit galore & then menthol, medicinal, licorice, forest floor, squirrely spice just pour out of the glass. So expressive. On the palate it is voluptuous w/plenty of acidity & tannins, it’s just a bit clumsy, but it means well. Black fruit compote with kitchen sink spices envelope the palate. Decent finish. Don’t know what the hell you’re supposed to eat with this stuff but it’s a lot of fun. — a year ago

Orange County Rkatsiteli 2017

Wow, what a surprise! Light and brisk. Honeysuckle big time. No after taste and a great finish like very faint citrus but no fruity. Wonderful in summertime with an ice cube. Lovely!! — 2 months ago

Orange County Norton 2017

Lovely example of the variety, not as wild & savage as some VA Norton, yet still plenty of flavor w/an elegant presentation. Great stuffing, balance & style. — 8 months ago

Estate Club Select Nebbiolo 2012

Wow! My cellar aging project scores another ‘discovery’ win. At almost 10 years from harvest, this Nate Walsh built beauty was doing what aged Nebbiolo is supposed to do! Using Horton fruit (Orange, Va), this bottle has metamorphosed into a seductive herbal-rose tea. It’s acidity is almost non-detectable, yet it was the perfect pairing for Tuscan-sausages & peppers w/creamy mash. The flavors of this Nebbiolo are so alive that they danced effortlessly with the sautéed peppers and complimented the herbs in the locally made Tuscans. Just wow…1 ‘12 remains plus 2 ‘10’s. — 3 months ago

Estate Club Select Syrah 2010

Very rare one-off from Nate’s early years at SSH. He source the Syrah from Horton and crafted in the “feminine” style. At 10yrs old it is really special. The acid had waned a bit (say 85% from baseline), but the aromatics were very Pinot...Oregon meets Rhône :) this was our thanksgiving dinner wine and it was great with Charcuterie and then brown sugar-cured ham, sweet potatoes, cream spinach etc. delicious!! — 2 years ago
