Herdade Do Esporão

Reserva Aragonês Blend 2015

The first wine to be produced by Esporão in 1985, this is a classic Portuguese red made exclusively with grapes from Herdade do Esporão. Indeed, it's a wine for special occasions that combines the universal culture of wine and art, via the reproduction of original works of art on its labels. The grapes for this blend of Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, Trincadeira, Cabernet Sauvignon are sustainably grown and hand-picked, and aged in American and French oak for 12 months. On the nose, aromas of dark plum preservatives, fresh minty and spicy notes with hints of clove and cocoa. The wine is balanced on the palate, with velvety tannins full of character, in harmony with the fruit that is the protagonist in an intense and elegant finish. — 23 days ago

Herdade Do Rocim

Amphora Vinho Tinto Red Blend 2019

The amphora process gives this wine a very unique quality that is difficult to describe: funky, primitive (in a good way), and forceful. Aromas of greens and hot peppers. The taste brings forth that hot pepper with eucalyptus, earth, and blackberry. Remarkable. — a month ago

Herdade do Mouchão

Mouchão Vinho Regional Alicante Bouschet 2011

Rich, ripe red and black fruit turning baked and dried, lots of musky smoke and mild meatiness. Red earth. Tannins resolved. Acid moderate. Yummy and distinctive. As it warmed up it relaxed in a nice way. — 2 months ago

Vinho Regional Alicante Bouschet 2011

Everything about this wine screams uncool in our industry in the present era: high alcohol (14%), heavy extraction, generous use of new oak (presumably), ripe + chewy tannins, flavors that shout rather than whisper and high praise from Robert Parker (cue Elaine or Carlton Banks’ dance moves). Maybe it’s my 90’s nostalgia or maybe I’ve been drinking too much vintage port these days 🤷🏻‍♀️ but it all works beautifully here: intense aromas of licorice, pepper, cedar, black plum, wet tar, dried tobacco, cranberries, cassis, dried violets. And this is only the beginning... A blast of macerated red and black berries on the palate, held together by a solid acid backbone, followed by a long finish laced with black olive, dried tobacco, mocha and mineral. Hedonistic. Three cheers for Alicante Bouschet! — 2 months ago

👏 buttoned up Carlton drinking vintage port! Can’t think of a more stuffy formal wine.
