This wine is rich and bold, but not in your face. It has been described as being incredibly sexy and full-bodied. I can’t disagree. This wine makes me want to learn more about the Northern Rhône wines.
Fact: Jaboulet Hermitage was purchased by Caroline Frey family in 2006 (the Frey family also owns Chateau La Lagune). I really love Chateau La Lagune.
And there is no doubt that this wine is best paired with Miles Davis Kind of Blue on the turntable. Prove me wrong. — 2 years ago
2015 vintage. From an estate bought in 2014, Caroline Frey (also La Lagune and Jaboulet) makes her mark with this Auxey-Duresses. In an appellation where rusticity is the norm, this is very elegant, with bright red cherry fruit, velvety tannin and very good length. Affordable for Burgundy. Abv. 13,5%. — 2 years ago
Lovely in a rich feminine way. Marzipan bouquet. Lemon cream with slightly acidic fresh finish. — 2 years ago
2016 vintage. The Jaboulet whites seem to have improved spectacularly under the Caroline Frey reign, as demonstrated by this amazing 2016. Light golden colour. Intense complex perfume of quince, pear, pineapple and lemon confit, intertwined with floral and mineral notes. In the mouth it is powerful and refined at the same time, with layers of fruit and spices, balanced by an attractive almondy bitterness. Impressively long mineral finish. Abv. 14%. — 2 years ago
2015 vintage Volnay, Château Corton C. Caroline Frey strikes again. This is textbook Volnay, with bright cherry fruit, elegance, precision and an unexpected complexity and length for a Villages wine. Absolutely gorgeous. Abv 13%. — 2 years ago
2017 vintage. Cornas Domaine Saint-Pierre, owned by Jaboulet since 1996 apparently ( amazing that they kept buying vineyards during a period where the wines were not up to standard). Today however, Caroline Frey has put the bar high, and we cannot tolerate anything but excellence from her own vineyards. This 2017 surely delivers. Impressive nose with blackberry, cassis and spices combined with an intense minerality. Layers of juicy black fruits and spices in a powerful frame of ripe tannin, with a long mineral finish. Should age beautifully for a few decades. — 2 years ago
2018 vintage. Anything produced by Caroline Frey seems to be worth buying these days and this Cornas is no exception. Ripe black fruit, blueberry jam and spices. It maintains acidity in this hot year and is every bit as good as the delicious 2017. Abv. 14,5 %. — 2 years ago
2006 vintage. The first vintage for Caroline Frey to be in charge. This shows beautifully now for a wine that was totally underrated by Robert Parker on release. While it may not have the depth and power of the greatest vintages of this iconic wine, this 2006 is a terrific wine in it's own right. Complex nose with spices, black fruit, tobacco and cedar. In the mouth it is beautifully balanced with bright acidity embracing layers of black fruit and spices and velvety tannin. Impressive length too. Abv. 14%. — 2 years ago
2015 vintage. This is a red Savigny-lès-Beaune, so Pinot Noir from the " Monopole" vineyard " Clos des Guettotes". Château Corton-André was bought in 2014 by the Frey family and the name changed into Château Corton C. A good start for Caroline Frey (also Château La Lagune and Paul Jaboulet Ainé) with this delicious elegant Savigny with impeccable balance and velvety mouthfeel. Abv. 13%. — 2 years ago

2022 vintage. A blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot. This biodynamic estate goes from strength to strength in the capable hands of Caroline Frey. In this exceptional vintage La Lagune honours its reputation as the finest wine in the Haut-Médoc appellation. Black fruit, flowers, cedar and subtle spices. A thick mouth feel, with layers of succulent fruit, spices, and a powerful structure of what might be the most velvety tannins ever for this estate. As usual it displays that unique aromatic and elegant character that I describe as somewhere between Margaux and Pessac-Léognan. Impressive depth and length. A strong contender for the title of best La Lagune ever. — 19 days ago
