Delectable Wine

The 2019 Pouilly-Fuissé La Maréchaude has a discrete bouquet, timid at first and then opens with aeration. Scents of grass clippings and struck flint shine as hints of orange zest come forward in the background. The palate is beautifully defined with a fine bead of acidity, great tension and poised with real intensity on the finish. I adore the energy in this nascent Pouilly-Fuissé and though difficult to resist in its youth, this should age with style. Superb. (Neal Martin, Vinous, November 2021)

The 2019 Saint-Véran Les Crèches, from vines in Davayé, has a taut and focused bouquet with stuck flint complementing the Granny Smith apple and fresh pear aromas. The palate is crisp with a saline entry, modest depth, touches of ginger enlivening the finish. This should age well in bottle. (Neal Martin, Vinous, November 2021)

Not an obvious Rhone when tasted blind: svelte medium- full body, lavender & garrique subtle, but lip smacking dark red & black fruits. Also Ribena/black currants. Acidity strikes a satisfying balance holding it all together. What an elegant wine, quite special. Paired with grapefruit slow roasted whole chicken. Not surprised to read this is served at Michelin starred restaurants. Kermit importer. — 4 months ago

Aglianico as Musigny. This shit is bananas. It is a thing of great beauty. The nose is the perfect melange of echoes of elite Pinot Noir (Musigny comes to mind) but firmly rooted in the soul of Campanian Aglianico. It tows this line brilliantly. As Burgundian as the most elite Barolo but in a different way. De Vogue Musigny comes to mind.

Stunning bing cherry, and an elite florality. Dizzying in its complexity and relentlessness. This is some nose. 9.8. I can’t think if I’ve ever smelled a better aglianico. A true Burgundian interpretation. The nose is just a knockout. The palate has so much sweet, dark aglianico fruit and unreal sweetness but offset by this profound noble minerality. The level of dry extract is so impressive and as big a wine as this is it never feels heavy. Power with finesse. Both elite. The finish is just forever. It truly never ends. This will improve for 20+ years and I imagine it could flirt with perfection one day. No wonder this is on every important Michelin starred restaurant’s wine list in Italy.
