'Primitif' Extra Brut Grand Cru Verzy Champagne Blend

A bit enchanting, a bit mysterious. A rather lovely medium copper color in the glass. Impressively persistent perlage and instant brightness. The nose is gorgeous with lifted aromas of red apples and butterscotch. Very floral with a slight touch of chalk and warm buns.

Immediately, you realize that this is a cut above other champagnes in this category. 80/20 PN from Verzy with an Extra Brut dosage. Terrific tension and drama with a substantial mouthfeel. Racy acidity but never overpowering. There’s a strength here and plenty of character to be found.

Still youthful and oh so alive, there’s a vibrancy to this wine. Red fruits on the palate with more chalk. Almonds, brioche, and cinnamon join the fun. Spice and toffee on the long finish. This helped remind me why I love wine. — 5 days ago

The Bubble Keush, but I didn’t grab it from the wheel well of my DeVille. 40% Khatouni and 60% Voskehat from high ground in Armenia. My first from within its borders and it’s very, very good. You would assume this was a mid-level champagne on the creamy end of the spectrum. — 6 years ago
