The Derivative Sonoma County Sémillon Blend 2011

Opened for Zoom tasting with Mike Officer. 66% Semillon, 24% Muscadelle, 10% Chasselas! Bone dry, medium clear gold in the glass. Unmistakeable wooly/lanolin notes on the nose from aging Semillon; pungent savory herbs and sweet, ripe pineapple. The wine takes on weight and nuance as it warms. Drinks more like a white Bordeaux blend. The wine acts like a shape-shifter...dry apricots one moment, then crushed almonds, then quince or kiwi. A fun roller coaster ride impeccably balanced with plenty of fruit and acid verve. — 24 days ago

Sonoma County Zinfandel 2017

Ripe, rich dark purple. Needed a cup for Bolognese... finished the rest with Quarantine Spaghetti. Nicely balanced with plenty of power (15%). — 25 days ago

Sonoma County Mourvèdre 2013

Rare California mono varietal. It’s typical of Carlisle (which I love). Big, bold and fruity although slightly angular. Interesting. — a month ago

Papera Ranch Carignane 2007

Chewy, cloudy, ripe and smooth as a baby’s butt! zoom tasting with Mike Officer. Asian spice and dark berry notes...tannin and alcohol totally integrated. Worked well with teriyaki salmon and pickled cucumbers. Apart from crumbly dry corks... I love my Carlisles with 12-15 years of age. Thanks Mike... for your passion and life spent chasing the dream of old vine fruit! — 24 days ago

Carlisle Vineyard Zinfandel 2014

As always, Carlisle killing it. Reigning in the jam and keeping acid fresh makes them one of the more complex, long-lived zinfandel producers of Zinfandel in California. — a month ago

Does need some time but delicious now. Cherry raspberry, spice, pepper, wet stone, sappy texture — a month ago

Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2018

Okay...I admit it..,when I think of red-check table-cloth Italian (pizza, pasta, Stromboli, calzone, etc.) I almost invariably reach for a young, vibrant Zinfandel. And Carlisle does it better than most. Dark, juicy, acid-driven, soft and packing enough alcohol to bring a smile. And this very young, screw-topped Dry Creek wine ticks all the boxes. “Crush me! Now!” It cries. Okay. And a bottle is never enough for two. Yummy and guilt-proof. — a month ago
