Carlisle Vineyard Zinfandel 2014

Russian River fruit is just so damn tasty. Can’t want to try the new Piner-Olivet blend from Carlisle this year. — 8 hours ago

In a great place right now. Beautiful wine; consumed over 3 days and the more air the better; super floral nose; perfectly ripe and lifted fruit and floral palate; rich and round tannins. — 5 days ago

Saitone Ranch Zinfandel

Hails from a vineyard planted 123 years ago in Russian River AVA. Intoxicating aroma of boysenberry, vanilla and black pepper. Intense dark fruit flavors and the prototypical Carlisle finish. Still going! 300 case production. — 8 days ago

I followed others and did a 2 hour decant; first hour in the decanter and the second back in the bottle (air integrating). It opened beautifully with strong savory elements nose to finish. I didn’t taste in PnP but can say it was light in tannin after the decant. Really smooth. — 8 days ago

This bottle was a bit different than my first two, starting with the very intriguing bouquet that reminded me of smelling summer berry bushes - a sort of fresh, slightly herbal quality mixed with sweeter fruit scents. The palate was red and black raspberries complemented by ripe peach, mildly assertive black pepper/spice, and a cool menthol on the close. If that sounds like an unusual mix of flavors, it is. But, somehow, it all works together. — 23 days ago

In Ames for a weekend with our senior and a little Big12/SEC Hoops Challenge. Go Cyclones! These appellation wines from Carlisle are a ridiculous value. Didn’t have a decanter so we popped the top and and had a cocktail while it opened a bit. Opaque, nearly black in the glass with a wafting nose of blackberry jam. The nose was a little ‘boozy’ to me but it only weighs in at 14.2% ABV. Massive on the palate, again with the blackberries and what my wife describes as ‘meaty’. Game? This one will age beautifully if you can resist. A beautiful finish accompanied a nice meal and a great start to the final weekend of January. Cheers! — 22 days ago

Oh my! Very old vine Zinfandel field blended with Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet and Grand Noir. Hints of cherries and stone fruits. Long aftertaste and a gorgeous nose. Hurrah for Carlise for finding and sourcing from these heritage vineyards. Highly recommended! — 15 days ago
