Old bones make damned good soup. Was listening to the I’ll Drink to That podcast today on my commute home. Monte Rosso is in Joel Peterson’s list of top old vine vineyards so I had to pop one.

Deep purple in color with prominent tearing. Aromas of cherry pie filling and baking spices. Full bodied with 15.5% alcohol and plenty of fruit though bordering on jammy. Medium tannin and acidity give it structure. Sourced from vines planted in 1886 with interspersed teinturier grape Grand Noir giving it bold color with only 260 cases produced.

Great Monte Rosso Vineyard Old Vines planted in 1886 Sonoma Cty. Zinfandel.
