Brut Champagne Blend 1988

Tasting group meet up with many of the regulars not able to attend . I knew the organizer invited someone whom we had not tasted with in about 15 years . He certainly made an entrance bringing this, in magnum no less. When poured it showed a fine mousse but it faded quickly. A very broad nose that hinted of some age. In the mouth it was like a sports car traveling a highway. Almond , brioche and some oxidative notes sped thru my mouth. The flavors accelerated only to linger similar to when you take your foot off the accelerator. Coasted effortlessly with no need to step on the brakes — a month ago

I was fortunate to have this a year or two ago (in 750) and was completely spellbound. I’d like to find one for myself one of these days.

Oh snap!

Domaine François Raveneau

Butteaux Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay

Word on the street is Butteaux triumphs MDT in warm vintages. In comes Raveneau Butteaux 2005. It had a superb nose that made it hard to put down. Palate didn’t quite match, but Raveneau is always a pleasure to drink — 3 years ago

PnP. Drinking young. Very dark, thick red color. Medicinal tones, cedar, and dark cherries on the nose with some oak. Same on the palate. Seems higher than the 14.4 OH. Next to zero finish which is disappointing. Average Napa Cab right now and seems way overpriced at $60+. — 9 months ago

Niagara Peninsula VQA Gamay Noir 2015

Knife-throwing act where the knives are carved from peppercorns and the target board is quilted cherry. Westworld's Clementine casually offers herself as a target, laughing and alternating between espresso and whiskey shots. — 5 years ago

Pol Roger

Sir Winston Churchill Brut Champagne 2013

Quite light straw colour , very fine persistent mousse . Quite discreet on the nose at first , then camomile , white flowers then deeper yellow fruits, brioche and citrus peel . More yellow fruits on palate , citrus peel. Dense , broad shouldered and mouth filling are all adjectives that come to mind but all balanced by good acidity, tension, plus lots of backbone . More mineral with slightly toasty brioche touches on the finish, good length , though not as long as the Bollinger Grande Année 2014 had last week. Really young , needs time but shows it’s quality . Better in 7- 10 years , I would imagine , will plateau for a further 10 at least — a year ago

Domaine François Raveneau

Clos Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2004

A wonderful nose. Limpid wet rocks, gentle lime, salty notes. Very raveneau- subtle but powerful with that distinctive. Kinda haunting... really broad and long. Minerality but all gently woven. Great stuff. — 3 years ago
