Borgo Stajnbech

Borgo Imperiale

L'auratae Sicily Nero d'Avola 2020

This one starts with a fun bouquet that includes some notes of char and brûlée, some leather shop, earthy woods, and drying tobacco aromas, some herbal spice like mint and rosemary, and some tart cranberry and raspberry red fruits. The palate keeps things simple and easy, with juicy cranberry and chewy red cherries and hints of smokiness and vanilla, with a medium-short finish. This grape doesn’t seem to have the tannins and phenolics to balance out the charred wood, but overall it’s a solid value that reminds me of a Brunello di Montalcino I had a while back that was about five times the price. It’s a great food wine that goes well with fresh and simple Italian dishes like plain cheese pizza and pasta with marinara. Organic and vegan for anyone interested in that. — 17 days ago

Azienda Agricola Borgo Conventi

Ribolla di Farra

Opened the bottle and it smelled really musty like dank basement. Quick taste, alive with vibrant acidity, some fruitiness. An hour later, basement wearing off a bit. Palette comes alive here, long finish hour. Hour or so later, nose is abundant herbs like chamomile and mint, wet stone, Aegean citrus. So much going on before even touching the lips. Each sniff is it’s own thing. In the mouth the acidity hits you like it’s a lot. But there’s candied citrus with salty carmelized sugar glaze and some white peach. Not cuz it’s sweet, it’s not. Then the finish is like unsweetened mentos and lingers on the tongue for quite a while. Good find on sale at Astor. Now I gotta find more old ribolla. — 3 months ago

So surprised with this (was unnecessarily bracing for impact).

Just flat out delicious. Bright, slightly tart fruit, great refreshing acidity. Just begs for another sip. — a month ago

Aransat L.A 19 Orange Pinot Grigio Sauvignon 2020

So fragrant! Opened up with a soft, peach scent and moved into orange blossom and honey. Creamsicle nose! But upon tasting I get butterscotch and salty sea air and an almost manzanilla sherry- level dryness.
Savory, complex, and thirst-quenching all at the same time. It’s just what I needed on a late summer evening on the balcony with a warm, breezy sunset.

Even better than last bottle. Nothing suggests that this wine is 38 years old. Simply marvelous! — 18 days ago

High Level Chianti Rufina! Complex and long finale, but velvet, smooth tannins. Toasted wood, tobacco - all subtle but very present!! Fruit notes like lingonberry…
Dazu: gerillte Lammleber - Lorbeer - getrocknete Paprika / Zucchini - Balsam - Pinienkerne / Artischocke

Surprised me. Tons of acidity. Grass, green apple, peach. Flavor held up for a few days, too. — 3 months ago
