Approachable Right Bank. Blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet franc from a 0.47 hectare plot in Montaigne Saint Émilion. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in used French oak barrels for 12 months. Intense nose with jammy dark fruit (blackberry, blueberry) aromas, leather, graphite and hints of menthol and violets. Rather Shocking, poured like a medium dark rose and thought it’s really shot but it’s terrific! A natural wine where the sourness mostly mellowed with age? Le Grand Clere Sauvignon 12.5ABV full of life and energy so often ascribed to orange wines but this one is real, with eight years in bottle no less. — a year ago
