More new oak than the Columbia Syrah. Tighter as well. Blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, black plum and blue fruit notes, loads of spice & baking spices, caramel & dark decayed florals. It's a little hot on alcohol for me. Finishes dry and edgier than their softer Columbia Valley Syrah. Like them both the same for their very different Syrah styles. Photos of; their tasting room which was a school until the early 1970's. L'Ecole translates from French to English as school. This is some damn impressive Saint Joseph. It has all of the expected blackberry and smokey goodness atop resonating notes of mushroom grit and blackboard eraser. A true standout in this appellation. — 9 years ago
