Mesmerizing Grenache from Christophe Baron. He once told me that his job is to sell pleasure and this wine is no less than that. Distinctively floral, with red and black cherries, strawberries, blueberries, grapefruits, nori leaves, crushed rocks and cola on the nose, the mouthfeel is sensational. So dense and concentrated, yet so light on its feet with ripe and deliciously smooth tannins. This is champions league winemaking. Drink now until 2033. — 2 years ago
A load of barnyard funk here, in typical Christophe Baron fashion. A very young wine so I’m giving this the benefit of the doubt at this stage. Less bell pepper than I’ve experienced with Cayuse, but a similar smoked meat profile. Polarizing as others have stated, but I dig it. Happy New Year! — 3 years ago
I opened this alongside a 2012 Cedric Bouchard Bechalin BdN, Krug 167, Vilmart Coeur, and a 2014 Christophe Baron.
After having the 2013 Laherte Empriente about 6 weeks ago, I was curious to try this. This took the best parts of the Empriente (aromatics of spiced Granny Smith apples, honeysuckle, Carmex?, and chamomile), and improved on the parts that were lacking (more robust, fleshed out palate of lemon confit, herb crusted yellow fruits, lemon cream spread over English biscuits, and truffle honey). This leans oxidative (on the palate) without the sherry notes aromatically. The lean and racy style in regards to dosage is much more in harmony than the Empriente (which came across as too dry and in need of added dosage). This improved as the night went on (expected for a 2015 champagne), so enjoy now if you have multiple or hold for a few years. Definitely buying more. — 3 years ago
The 2019 God Only Knows Grenache from wizard winemaker Christophe Baron is a radiating beauty. Pale ruby-colored, it displays fragrant aromas of violets, blood orange, exotic spices, raspberry liqueur, ripe cranberry, forest strawberry and crushed rocks. Medium bodied and layered, the ever-so-silky tannins and balancing acids contribute to a seamless mouthfeel so characteristic of Barons wines. It ends with a bright finish and should provide ample drinking pleasure over the next 15 years. — a year ago
What a suprise!! A free bottle shipped to all on Christophe Baron mailing lists(Cayuse, Hors Categorie, Horespower, No Girls) and a zoom tasting with the bionic frog himself, for this new wine from No Girls winery. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Tempranillo, from younger vines.
1 hour decant. An exquisite medium dark purplish garnet color. On the nose: big nose of cherry, grilled meat, a slight Cayuse funk(luv it), leather, dark chocolate, pencil lead. Taste: juicy, fresh medium body wine with plum, baking spice, milk chocolate, grapefruit, leather, and a nice looonnnggg finish. A fun, easy to drink wine now or over the next 4 years. You know you want some!!! — 3 years ago
Christophe Baron first Walla Walla Valley vineyard, this 10-acre plot produces their flagship Cailloux Vineyard Syrah. Ruby with aromas of red fruits, herbs and floral notes. On the palate flavors of black cherry, raspberry and currants, with notes of tobacco, herbs, floral and toasty notes. Long finish, fine soft tannins ending with fruit, herbs and sweet notes. Very nice! — a year ago
Deep purple, the 2018 Horsepower Syrah The Tribe Vineyard shines with precise aromas of violets, blackberry, orange peel, iodine, crushed rocks and delicate wood smoke. There'a also a meaty, deliciously savory component. Medium to full-bodied, the wine has a smooth, almost silky texture with clear traces of whole bunch fermentation, giving it some of the famous Christophe Baron funkiness. The ripe, pixelated tannins are alluring and contribute to a firm structure. Drink now until 2040. — a year ago
Color - dark purple garnet. A bold expressive funky perfume fruit nose so classic of Cayuse with mineral-meat, smokey and mint notes lingering with a vanilla toast scent. Juicy and elegant; rich with dark plum-cherry flavors intertwined with a smokey soil bacon bitters taste—the mineral-iron characteristics follow with a tobacco long finish. Looking forward to seeing how the flavors change with different foods and as the wine opens up. Bionic Frog is favorite and definitely a wine to try and store in your cellar. 1hour decant(some cloudy sediment). A brooding medium dark ruby red with purple hues. On the nose: raspberry/cherry, roasted meat, slight "rocks" funk(luv it), clove, touch of new leather, floral. Taste: creamy, chalky, juicy wine with tart cherry/strawberry, smokey, earth, cedar and a nice medium plus finish. YUM! Another winner from Christophe Baron winery — 6 months ago
