Another Wednesday Wine Committee in the books. Great hosting by @Bill Makens . 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds, 1 dessert wine all served blind.
Only the second Amarone I’ve had that has been truly fantastic. This was raisiny but not overly stewed and muddled. It was more dusty and fig based. Blackberry compote, Mexican vanilla, dark chocolate and candied dark fruits on the nose. Rich and decadent with graham cracker, black cherry liqueur and a small spice note toward the back of the palate. Lots of guesses of CdP and Sonoma zin. I went back and forth between zin and mid 2000s Aussie Cab. — 11 days ago
Still gorgeous 28 years after harvest. Color: deep garnet. Nose: raisin. The taste evolved beautifully, too. It started off surprisingly light in body and reminiscent of plum tart. After some 40 minutes in the glass it grew deeper and richer, with notes of stewed fruit. — 14 days ago
Medium ruby/garnet in color with a nose of sour cherry, pepper, leather, and a slight note of almond. High acidity with tangy flavors pumping through. Medium body with intense flavor over a long finish. Finish is over a minute. Not particularly balanced, but amarone tends to be tilted towards high acidity. — 2 days ago
Heavy and thick. I taste lots of blueberries. Needs bit more brightness. Small sips are the best. — 9 days ago
Brie cheese funk in the nose upon opening. Dissipated into dark chocolate, rasins and broken cherry tree branch green woodiness. Left the bottle open, uncorked, for 23 hours and came back to this tremendous complexity. Should age beautifully! — 5 days ago
I cant stop smelling this wine. The flavor reminds me of dark plum skins and eucalyptus. Mmmmm — 2 days ago
Really enjoyed this wine. Heather picked it up for me in SF. Low tannins with a slight peppery taste. Definitely fruit forward but not overpowering. Would buy again and enjoy with the wine group — 2 months ago
