100% Nerelllo Mascalese from very old vines (80+ years) grown on the north slope of the Etna. Bright red with crunchy red cherry, plum, spice and smoke. Fruit is less prevalent in the mouth and the mineral component is more evident. Still big tannins with good acidity. Texturally very pleasing with long finish — 5 years ago
The 2020 Nerello Mascalese Pirrera is delicate and coy in the glass, showing just nuances of rose and black cherry contrasted by dusty earth. Silky and refined, it washes across the palate with a pure blend of red and wild blueberry fruit. A mineral staining adds tension toward the close. It finishes structured and long with a citrus concentration to balance as tart raspberry and sage slowly taper off. Patience will be required to tame this structured Etna Rosso. Excellent easy drinking wine, looks light but is actually 13.5 degrees. Cherries, a bit astringent, pale. With schrimp diabolo and reblouchon potatoes an excellent wine to cut through the spices/heath and through the butter. Would be excellent with a plate of charcuterie for lunch. — 3 years ago
Very bold style of Nerello! Great fruit, nice floral component, light tannin. This will only get better with some time in bottle. — 2 years ago

Loved this, good tannins, leathery volcanic action but also nice red fruits with a slight funk
