This is a novel wine. It’s Red Muscat that is served chilled like a white wine. It is easily one of Italy’s most unique and greatest wines. It has the character of wines in other styles that cost thousands of dollars but because it’s such a freaky grape and made in a freaky style, (11.5% almost like a Kabinett Red Wine) it’s not that expensive. Still it’s great. Truly epic. Like a dessert at a 3 star Michelin that centers around some insane sauce. This is the vinous equivalent of that sauce. The nose is floral to a degree that using floral to describe any other wine is an insult to this wine. It’s minty and smells almost like an apothecary in God’s waiting room. It’s got roses. I mean in your face yet subtle and beautiful roses. There’s also fresh green shrubbery. Like walking into a freshly manicured British aristocrat’s family garden. There’s deep black cherry skins. It’s pungent and potent but also haunting and beautiful. The palate tho! They combo of fresh/sweet/ electric sweetness and a guided decadence. Perfect balance. Insanely pure. Willi Schaefer vibes here. Gorgeous sweet tannins and a deliciousness that is rare in this world. After air the nose has green and oolong tea aromas. Just a mesmerizing nose. Palate and nose are 50/50. This is not a perfect wine but it’s perfect for me. 9.7. — 12 days ago

Nose reminds me of so many things. Burgundian/German but uniquely Alto Adige as well. Fresh dead leaves, dusty cherry, floral, herbal, cherry, cherry flower. Hint of amaro type intensity, like one aroma from a Chinato. So unique. Textured and juicy. Calls back Liaison without the nattie character. Chiseled and precise but structured and young. In need of age. Perfect balance and very elegant. Complex and serious. Needs to open up. 9.2 for now. Long and sappy. — 23 days ago

Tradition Alto Adige Pinot Bianco 2015

Another lovely Terlan wine from the Dolomites. We enjoyed sipping these clean whites in the mountains last summer. Crisp notes of pear and lemon grass, no oak influence, bone-dry, a little extra complexity from aging on the lees. Pinot Blanc should be on more wine lists... no bitter finish and a lovely alternative to most Pinot Grigio. — 5 days ago

Manna Schweizer Riesling Blend 2016

This is a crazy Riesling blend. Not sure all of them but it’s 5 grapes. It smells immediately like a wine that will fail on the palate if it does not have some major acids and minerals. It’s an exuberant and very fruity nose. The Gewurz is there and dominates like the loud person at a table of 5. Some mineral undertones and veggie florals if that makes sense. Palate is what I thought it would be. Loads of minerals and good acid to make it fresh. A very mineral wine that needs to be because of the exuberant nose. Nose gets more floral and interesting as it airs out. More nuanced. Some smoke and incense notes. Very interesting. Kind of like Italian Gemicher-Satz. A wine to reach for with a lot of food. Some piquant citrus and candied orange develop with air. Also the florals increase. It gains energy and sap. Really a fascinating first 10 minutes to this wine. Chameleon. Alto Adige - Südtirol Müller-Thurgau 2017

Very European label. Color of, well pee in the bowel. Maybe a bit brassy. Smells of wood and sweet grass. Maybe some wet rocks and hint of scotch. Flavors are clean and unexpected. Bit of butter to go with the candy lemon peel, gooseberry and ripe pears. There is a savory strange element that really gives it a specialness. A kinda broth-y, Unami. Smooth on the tongue, velvety even. This is a trippy white wine. Kinda reminiscent of some CA Chard, but way less boring. — 19 days ago

Corax Pinot Nero (Blauburgunder) 2017

From our friends at Le volpe e l’uva, this is a tasty pinot nero from the Sudtirol-Alto Adige region in north central Italy. Reminiscent of a high-end, Village-level burgundy, this has terrific fruit on the palate, bright, vibrant acidity, and a nice finish. This probably goes for less than 20 euros at the shop, but would be bargain at twice that price! — 23 days ago
