Mount Langi Ghiran

Cliff Edge Shiraz 2017

See previous notes on 2 tasting occasions. Coincidentally all at Paros on the Beach Apartments - all 3 tastings. One of my favourite 2nd wines in Australia. Often associated with white pepper, this exhibits more plum and spice. A very good wine and great QPR. — 7 days ago

Thanks for the awesome note Bob. I've only got a little experience of the 2009 vintage. It's never agreed with me. Always far too acidic. I've tried everything to soften it but to no avail. 😢

Yeringberg

Yarra Valley Marsanne Roussanne 2015

A rich lemon in colour. A little honeysuckle note but not intensely varietal like a Southern Rhone white can be - aromatic and unctuous. Just medium bodied - a little elegant. Medium minus acid. First of 3. Drink the other 2 in the next year or so. Made by the long established de Pury family who are French who commenced making Marsanne at Yeringberg in the 1860’s and pioneered Roussanne in Australia in the 1980’s. A good wine but to be honest not as enjoyable as Guigals Cotes du Rhone Blanc using largely similar varietals for $24. I should add that Yeringberg make a benchmark Cabernet in the Yarra Valley. — 9 days ago

Bass Phillip

Crown Prince Gippsland Pinot Noir

This is Bass Phillip’s entry level Cuvée of about 5 different Cuvées. Pale Ruby with cloudiness from BP’s policy of bottling unfiltered. Jujube confectionery notes with savoury cherry and forest floor. Light to medium weight palate, made to be drunk young. The fruit for this wine comes from the major part of the Leongatha vineyard (where the Estate, Premium and Reserve Pinots come from). Even though this is a different vintage to previous notes on Delectable for Crown Prince the tasting notes are similar. — 20 days ago

Balgownie Estate

Bendigo Shiraz 2008

Earthy aspberries, blackberries, spices and that licorice that has sat at the back of the cupboard for a decade. Very smooth — 10 days ago

Pinot Noir Old Cellar 2018

This is the entry level Cuvée of about 6 Cuvées of Pinot Noir from Bass Phillip. Under the new ownership of Burgundian, Jacques Fourrier, there appears to be less offered of about 4 judging by the 2019 vintage I just purchased a few weeks ago. This had a touch of cloudiness which is not unusual as they bottle unfiltered which contributes to flavour intensity. This had pronounced strawberry notes on nose and palate. Not particularly complex but fruit driven with note of game and very enjoyable. — 15 days ago

Issan Vineyard Pinot Noir 2013

As per prior notes on several occasions. Rich berry fruits - glacé fruit Barb said initially. Asian spices - a beautiful nose. On the palate- berry fruits - medium plus palate Medium minus tannins. The Issan vineyard is known for its ultra high density planting (5 hectares of vines planted at 9000 vines per Hectare). — 20 days ago
