Superb nose. Big bright dark cherries. Slight hint of reduction as well. Woodsmoke and spices galore. Reduction blows off after 5 minutes. Once can tell from the nose that this wine is stuffed to the gills. The darker side of Chianti. What a nose. Keeps opening and opening. Palate is dark, deep and concentrated. Lovely hit of opulence in the mid palate and then wonderful sweet fruit and lovey structure. The tannins are something fierce but not overwrought. Great length. This is superb. What poise and balance. Amazing structure and density. Such sweetness! Confectionery cherries galore. A baby now but has 25+‘years to go. Wonderful.
9.4 to 9.5. Endless finish. Stunning. — 2 years ago
An exemplary Chianti. Exhibits all the things the Sangiovese grape can bring to a wine when properly handled. Nice cherry on the nose. Cherry, raspberry and some oak infused complexity. A straightforward Chianti that doesn't pretend to be anything else, but showcases the characteristics of a Tuscan Sangiovese. Smooth drinking with a bit of tartness on the finish. — 8 years ago
On the nose, this is blackberry bush at the peak of summer... On the palate, those blackberries are there with a big bucket worth of fresh-picked raspberries... The bramble's present on the palate too, but the wine doesn't present as under-ripe at all. While probably best described as medium bodied, the freshness of the fruit is what's dominant here... Licorice all-sorts are a playful bonus... Medium acidity here which tied together our roast pork dinner with lardons... The finish is medium and memories of raspberry... A great Sunday dinner wine...
