Casually poured double-blind from a brown bag at the very end of the night while our heads were still spinning from the incredible quality on display. The senses were overloaded. It was blood lust. And then…I smelled my glass. An overwhelming feeling of serenity washed over me. It’s was almost as if a pair of noise-cancelling headphones were placed in my ears. This was different. It commanded attention. This wasn’t a wine from the Rhône. It smelled like Burgundy…and it was special. There was brilliant structure accompanying the most sublime fruits and exotic spices. I looked up at my buddy Matt who was also nosing his glass and our eyes met. He was also spellbound. He then quietly declared to me, “this is DRC”. I thought to myself, surely no. This late? After everything we just had?? Until now, I had never tried DRC so I had no frame of reference but Matt seemed pretty confident. Then some of the others started to fall into the trance. Everyone was falling over themselves. The bottle was pulled from the bag by our host. And there it was. A 2011 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Échézeaux. It was just beautiful. I was different now…almost like losing my virginity. What a sensational nightcap. — 2 years ago

Such a deep, complex and aromatic nose. Deep mid season cherry and overwhelming spice. Such stunning spice. Singular. Super earthy and mineral. Like a MSD 1er Cru or SLB Dominode. But so elegant and precise. Really stunning nose. A nose one can sniff and sniff. 9.7 nose. Genius. Leaves. Sweet leaves and sweet spices. Baking spices and such vivid cherry fruit. OMH the purity, finesse and balance here are just divine as is the sweetness. Such sweet cherry fruit and dense yet nimble. This is so stunning and so insane. Balance is perfect. This really is special. Amazing length and just as pure as pure can be. So complex, tangy sweet and fresh. Just spellbound by this.

After a few hours this is a dazzler and the complexity and ethereal qualities light up. The sweetness that was initially there is now balanced by pronounced minerality. Thrilling Pinot. — 3 years ago

Opened on a whim for a spontaneous pizza night, this naturally showed better the following evening. For a modestly priced Barbaresco, I was spellbound by this wine, an absolutely gorgeous Nebbiolo with power, grace and purity that should have a long life ahead. Superb. — a year ago

Light bodied, sour tannin (in a good way), salty ocean water, tart cherry, black fruit, vanilla, oak, nail polish remover (mildly) on the nose. One of the most interesting and complex cabs I’ve had. Not spellbound with this, but pretty cool. — 6 years ago
