Recioto della Valpolicella Classico Superiore Amarone Corvina Blend 1982

#AgedWineTuesday.

Ruby in color with a wide and dirty brick rim.

Showing a wonderful nose with lots of earth notes.

On the palate, sweet cherries, over ripen plums, raisins, dried fruits, chocolates, citrus, tobacco, coffee, peppercorn, earth, black tea, wet leaves and herbs.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity.

Nice tangy finish, yet not very long, with fine grained tannins.

I did not decant it, but let it open up in the bottle. I really liked the nose, after 30 minutes of airtime.

Thank you John for sharing this with me.

Nice to see how this lasted so well, even though it is from a bad vintage.

This 39 year old is not at its peak any longer, but still very drinkable. I believe it was way better 10 years ago. Lucky to have the bottle all for myself, as no one else liked it. 😃

Also, great to see that the alcohol is kind of low (for an Amarone).

Aged for 2 years in wood barrels.

14% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$120.

Soave Classico Garganega 2019

Great slate upfront taste with lychee and apple fruit aftertaste.
Had this with fire grilled mackerel with leek, cabbage and zucchini sautéed in extra virgin olive oil. Made for a great pairing.

Raisiny and grape-y nose offers tart and powdered candy notes, white mushroom, schist, light pepper and tea. Dry open of grape-y tartness, bing cherry and lavender petal. Mouth-coating with cranberry-blackberry and black currant, bitters and dates. Great priced ripasso.

Ambrosan Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2009

Dark ruby in color with a purplish rim.

Strong nose of blackberries, sweet plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, dried figs, wet leaves, raisins, licorice, spices, tobacco leaf, earth, herbs and peppercorn.

Full bodied with medium acidity, bold and spicy.

Dry and very fruity on the palate with blackberries, black currants, raisins, dried figs, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, tobacco leaf, chocolates, coffee and mocha.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a great Amarone. Nicely aged, big and tasty. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 90 minutes of airtime. I did not decant it, but only let it open in the bottle.

This 12 year old from an excellent vintage is peaking now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 years.

Delicious by itself or with food. I paired it with a delicious pizza with prosciutto and fresh arugula.

A blend of 70% Corvina, 20% Rondinella and 10% Croatina. Aged in French oak barrels for 30 months. 800 cases produced.

16% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

iL Canovino Classico Superiore Valpolicella Ripasso 2016

Color is quite youthful. Nose has Graham cracker, tilled soil, dried cherry and cherry ooze. Big whack of (non-jammy) fruit initially, but quickly framed by soft tannins, and a nice but subtle minerally, savory component comes in. Very nicely balanced, with nice acids. Nicely concentrated too. Will go great with my pasta tonight. — 6 days ago

Amarone della Valpolicella Corvina Blend 2015

Pure and clean Amarone. Still vibrant red fruit upfront cased in a dark earthy tar extracts on the mid palate and finish. Soft, fine tannin bound it together as smooth, balanced impactful wine that disappeared way too quick. — 12 days ago

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2015

Sergio Zenato and his wife Carla began to produce quality wines from an indigenous varietal, Trebbiano di Lugana, and passed down through the generations. A blend of 80% Corvina, 10% Rondinella, 10% Oseleta and Croatina. Medium Ruby with aromas of dried berry fruits, sweet and smoky notes with pleasant herb spice. On the palate flavors of ripe currants and sweet blackberries with cacao, spice, oak and nutty tones. Fine tannins, long complex finish ending slightly creamy with cedar notes. Starting to drink well now, enjoy over next 4-5 years. — 7 days ago

Retailed for $36 but I got on close out for $24 which is where it should be priced: not as much density & minerality as other Turbiano I’ve had, but this was tasty: dark straw w/goldish hue, big nose of nectarine & white peach, very floral w/poached pear & stones, lanolin on palate. Acidity little spritzy as well as finish. Would like to see more balance & harmony - believe this has more time & should be consumed at cellar temp. — 6 days ago

Juicy loosie lose your goosie. But also dry, go figure. This is a proper Ripasso made by a good winery that has been doing it well for many years.
I'll be back.
