Special Selection Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Neat little comparison, as this was tasted alongside a 2009 O'Shaughnessy Mount Veeder Cabernet. It was interesting how these at first were very different, then started to converge, then started to diverge significantly. At the end of the comparison, this one was a two-point winner. This is a nose of classic Napa Cabernet. Blackberry currant, pepper that almost singes your nostril hair. Entry is full-bodied, Blackberry, blueberry, baking spices, currant, licorice, herbs. And just kept adding another layer and another layer. On the finish, softened tannins are noted yet toasted quality is still extremely present. This wine is showing superb integration, and in my opinion it's still probably 3 to 5 years away from the very top of the hill. This one has a long life ahead. — 3 years ago

Another fun comparison from same vintage, same winemaker, and same fruit! Difference is that this wine from Progeny is the choice barrels of the Veeder fruit. Like the O’Shaughnessy on steroids. Wow! Cashmere. So plush and rich in profile. Nutmeg and sweet cocoa on the nose with ripe blue and black fruit. Baking spices, baked mixed berry pie, sandalwood, lush and fresh dark fruits to the core. Grainy yet soft tannins at the finish. Still improving. Killer bottle. Thanks @Mark Flesher

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

One word. INSANE! I've heard all about Haber from @Shawn R and @Martin G Rivard and I'm more than pleased to say that their recommendations are totally spot on! Tonight was the Taste of Howell Mountain event in Dallas and the line-up was absurd. Aloft, Adamvs, Lamborn, Dunn, Outpost, O'Shaughnessy and many other rock stars. After tasting through many '13s and '14s, the '14 Haber Howell Mountain was the Wine of the night without a doubt. His '13 was great and when he said his '14 was excellent I thought it couldn't surpass it...it most definitely did. Buy this stuff up! The nose is out of this world...smoked meats, caramel, candied almonds. Jackpot! — 6 years ago

Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

My 1000th Delectable wine! And quite fitting. This wine is massive. Compared to a 13 O'Shaughnessy Veeder that was consumed alongside, this wine had a bit more. Both were still youthful and primary, the nose of this with a Blackberry and cassis. Entry is just north of full bodied, tannic from the start and stiff to the finish. Black fruits and a hint of lavender and tobacco. Has quite a few years left. This bottle was a victim to experiment and still an easy 95....I feel inclined to give it a 96 but am stopping at 95. Easily a 97 at maturity if my willpower allows it (which it won't). — 4 years ago

Dense and rich. Sweet tar, fresh squeezed blackberries, dark chocolate and licorice aromatics. Big on the palate...so much blue and black fruit with currant and plum. More cocoa than dark chocolate. Thought this edged out the ‘06 O’Shaughnessey by a point or so. Always delicious and can’t wait to visit in a month.
