Been holding on to this bottle for a little while now. Had two of the same vintage before. Needed time to open up but was still juicy, grassy, with an easy finish. The end has definitely changed a bit with time. Sad to see it go. — 5 days ago
Not in love with like other vintages. I will let my 750 age a couple years and the magnum even longer if possible. — 25 days ago
Didn’t take notes as I thought I already had a Delectable note on this Atlas but I noticed previous note was 2013 and this wine was 2016. Not dissimilar to the previous with Black currant and a little Clare Valley menthol/eucalyptus. A full bodied palate with black fruits and chocolate - softening tannins and medium minus acid. An excellent red for the money. — 2 days ago
Named after Grange creator, Max Schubert. Adelaide Hills developing as a premium region for Chardonnay. A modern nose of funky solids and nougat. Not a blockbuster on the palate but quite restrained and elegant with grapefruit and mineral notes. Someone like Penfolds cannot afford to make an average wine and this is anything but average. Great QPR for only $35. — 2 days ago
It’s been a crazy time for us, these last six months. First, Em and I got married. Then, a few weeks ago, my mom passed away, after a long battle with cancer. Now, despite the strange timing we’ve just closed on a new place and are in the process of moving in. Heads spinning, we’ve had no shortage of emotions, or reasons to open good bottles of wine.
At first this was totally closed down. Into the decanter and a few hours later a fleeting high toned floral perfume develops. Glimpses of violets, some tart, just ripe black currants, red and purple fruited forest berries, and a hint of black pepper. So elegant, it’s hard to believe this is a Cali cab. It doesn’t taste old or new world really. It just is. Lithe, elegant, and transparent, with thrilling acid and gentle tannins. The structure is there.
All that said, the nose closes up some, after that initial flirtation. Seems to be shut down overall; tertiary qualities yet to develop. The potential is evident. 9.4++ — a month ago
