Château de Rayne-Vigneau

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 1998

Ming L

Tropical fruits commingle with the typical aromas of molasses, orange peel, and dried apricots. Hint of mint as well. Salted sweetness is countered by abundant fresh acidity. Would like to see a bit more viscosity on the medium to full body.

A simple good pairing with dark chocolate. Very youthful at 23 years.

No. 9 Zwischen den Seen Auslese Trockenbeerenauslese Scheurebe 1998

Opened yesterday, when it was breathtaking, notes from today. On the nose: candied ginger, molasses, cinnamon spice, honey. On the palate: lovely spice and acidity, good sweetness, but beautifully tempered by the lively acidity. Spicy ginger and molasses on the finish. Yum.

@Delectable Wine this is number 3, not 9.

So complex and delicious! — a month ago

Hill Family Estate

Red Door Estate Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2013

Big and bold, a good match for a steak. Mulled fruit, molasses, caramel, oak, cedar, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, leather, cigar box, and pine. High alcohol, medium plus tannins, and high acid. Tone down the alcohol and this would be a beautiful wine. Still yummy, though. — a month ago

Lots of burnt caramel, molasses, brown sugar, candied apple. Most primary fruit gone but still a delicious end to our 4th of July staff get together. Older then everyone in the shop but me! — 5 days ago

La Pousse d'Or

Clos du Roi Corton Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2014

Nose has damp, mossy forest floor, black cherry pie you accidentally stepped on while hiking in aforementioned forest, molasses, fire drowned out by rain, dried blackberry, dried leather and wet cedar.

Palate has dried blackberry, under-ripe black cherry, fig paste, saturated oak barrel, oak spiced red cherry, notable tannins, still overly restrained.

Decanted 4H, probably wanted 8H+, too youthful. This bottle will likely need about a decade to concentrate.

Paired to a favorite dish in our house, Curry Braised Eggs (from our hens), served over brown rice with toasted Naan bread. Absolutely delicious! 😋 Nothing better than mildly spiced, tomato-based dishes with exquisite Burgundy.

(Honestly this Corton deserves a braised beef dish, expect it would be spectacular with short ribs next time around...note to future self.)

The fourth of several 2014 La Pousse d'Or bottles we acquired late in 2019. This, as expected, needs another 15-20+ years (2036+) to show its truer self.

Grande Réserve Pères Trappistes Belgian Ale 2019

Big head... smells of Molasses and chocolate cake. A classic Trappist. Dark. Thick. A slow sipper. Tried to match with Indian food... I’d say it worked-ish. (the vintage is on the cork). — 2 months ago
