Karabunar (Bulgarian Heritage)

Thracian Valley Mavrud 2015

So memorable, a trip to Leesburg Döner was made magical with the addition of one of these. A touch of Rhône character here… Syrah seems to be at play with Mourvèdre...with the native grapes used. Great value and pairing with beef doner — 3 years ago

Elenovo Mavrud 2011

Browning garnet in color. Ethanol is strong on the nose. There’s aromas of stewed plums, blackberry sauce, mocha, rubber, vanilla, and tarragon. Full bodied with structured tannin. Beautifully expressive flavors of both fresh plums and prunes, blackberries, pencil shavings, mocha and vanilla. It sees a bright uplift on the long lasting finish into almost a cherry candy and strawberry licorice like profile, with a smooth and silky mouthfeel. — 4 years ago

Pet Nat Funky Mavrud MAVRUD 2019

This was a fun find at Calvert Woodley. Fizzy. Despite that it had some elegance in construction; minerality, tiny yeasty notes, golden fruit. It washed down the evening’s viewing of the American insurrection. — 8 months ago

Version Plaisir Divin Mavrud 2013

Ruby red with vibrant highlights. The head aroma is toasty oak, followed by black cherries, blackberries, black olives and mint. Lovely midpalate that’s lush and silky smooth with soft tannin and flavors of black cherries, cranberries, vanilla, and chocolate covered raisins. It finishes super long with all of those flavors and a silk, sensual mouthfeel. — 4 years ago
