Old Vines Patagonia Sémillon 2017

9.0

This is their 17 Semillon, not the Sauvignon Blanc. I requested Delectable add it.

On the nose; sour meyer lemons, overripe pineapple, apricot, honeysuckle and fragrant yellow florals.

On the palate; macerated, lemon, apricots, stone fruit, some green & golden apple, soft chalkiness & minerality. Beautiful fresh acidity and rich polished finish.

Really enjoyed this one. Little bit of acidic but an easy drinker. Some saline. Classic style i would expect with an albarino

Don Miguel Vineyard La Masia Chardonnay 2018

I would have hated this wine a few years ago, but I’ve learned to embrace some oak in California Chardonnay. Some melon here, citrus, minerals, vanilla, the oak is nicely integrated with the wine, I can dig. Paired with smoked wings. — 5 years ago

Reserva Gran Coronas Black Label Penedès Cabernet Sauvignon 1978

Crazy wine, and probably the most welcome departure from the Syrah-Fest of January '19. I was expecting a wine with a tiny bit of fruit but mostly notes reminiscent of a cigarette being put out in it. Whoah Mama! If blindfolded, there is no way I would have guessed that this was 100% cabernet from Spain, and 40 year old cabernet from Spain at that! Still had a lot of Blackberry on the front, but also hints of black tea, rhubarb. Leather and tobacco in the middle into the Finish. But this one finishes with a lot of black youthful fruit that is reminiscent of a wine that may have 10 years of age on it. Completely and totally awed. — 7 years ago

The Torres stuff has a long life, have much in the early '00's, every time we open one I regret it, they are very strong each time. They have been off limits for 2 years now, to hold some kind of reserve in the cellar.

Very impressive. Almost 41yrs of age and there was still fruit here...and it even increased after 30mins of being open. Leather, tobacco, bay leaf, and stewed blackberries. There was a streak of black cherry down the middle to give this a lift. Very cool experience.

Ferrington Vineyard Pinot Noir

Historically there's just been something about Anderson Valley Pinot that I have not really agreed with. until today. @Shay Aldriedge maybe I was wrong about the RM Anderson Punots. I'm so damn confused........ this one brought its A-game and quite a few awesome substitutes. Bing cherry, black tea and spices. Heavily weighted with a very generous mouth feel. Finish is what this one lacked the most and pretty much the only reason I did not write this a 9.5. I am very glad I bought several of these! — 8 years ago

I’ve enjoyed this producer. Was this one through LastBottle?

@TheSkip I was actually talking with someone about Selyem and was told to try Brack Mountain out because of Fitzgerald and his connection to them. Literally the next day, this Pinot came on Last Bottle. So I bought three of them, and definitely glad I did.

Pazo de Bruxas (Familia Torres)

Rías Baixas Albariño 2019

This wine has a rich yellow-green tint. On the nose I thought I smelled some oak, but I was mistaken. It’s all steel. There is an overriding salinity that mutes the floral, apricot and citrus aspects a bit. The palate carries that salinity as well. That, plus a racy acidity, makes me want some oysters with it. — 5 years ago

Reserva Gran Sangre de Toro Catalunya Garnacha Blend

Another Catalunya blend. This one was a little more fruit expressive. Both on the nose and the palate. Seemed like more blue fruits but traces of red fruit snuck in there as well. Not as spicy as the previous blend I had as well. Over all a nice afternoon glass of wine. — 8 years ago
