It's Blanton's, proofed up to 103. Being a single barrel, Blanton's is consistently good but not consistently great. This bottle is well above average. It smells and tastes like something from the Van Winkle bourbon lineup. Dark cherry, apricot, leather, cigar box. Much more pleasing than last years bottle. I thought the Gold used to be in a skinnier 700ml bottle, but this is 750ml. Maybe I'm losing it 🤔

Always like seeing the bourbons you are drinking. Haven’t had many golds to remember the size. How’s it compare to the cask strength?

Hey Norman! Similar to the cask strength, just not quite as hairy. I think my bottle of cask strength is proofed at 114. I usually put droplets of Kentucky limestone water in it to proof it back down to regular Blanton's 😁

I’ve never had a swing of opinion larger that this. I originally rated this 6.2 and panned it (below). I just stuck this in the back of my bar and forgot about it for months. When I rediscovered it, it (or maybe I) was totally different. Complex, luscious with a long finish and amazing flavors or spice, vanilla, oak, brown sugar and rosemary. It’s a miracle!!
ORIGINAL REVIEW: This just sucks, I guess? Multiple tries over a week and all I get is charcoal and copper. Like, if you took a bottle of Jack Daniels, put 50 pennies in it and left it in a closet for 6 months…you would have this whiskey. Bizarre and terrible. — 3 years ago
