Cheers to the wines of South Africa 🇿🇦
This Hamilton Russell Pinot Noir is unique in that the grapes used to produce it primarily came, not from Hamilton Russell vineyards, but rather from neighboring vignerons.
Hamilton Russell made this unprecedented decision in the aftermath of devastating wild fires that imparted smoke taint to its estate-grown grapes. Unwilling to compromise on quality, I applaud Hamilton Russell for its tenacity and willingness to forge ahead to create this delicious Pinot Noir for its customers. 👏👏👏
This wine is comprised of fruit hailing from three different Hemel-en-Aarde (aptly meaning “heaven and earth”) Wards within the Walker Bay District, in the Cape South Coast Region of South Africa’s Western Cape.
This wine is a reflection of community, camaraderie, and commitment to excellence.❤️
👁 It is medium ruby with pale fuchsia rim variation.
👃 On the nose this wine has a medium(+) intensity of youthful aromas. The aromas include candied cherry, strawberry rhubarb preserves, violet, dried orange peel, white pepper, star anise, clove, and nutmeg.
👄 On the palate this wine is dry. It has medium(+) acidity, a medium body, medium alcohol, medium tannins, and medium intensity of flavors consistent with the nose. This wine has a medium finish.

2014 Vintage. 15.5% Alcohol. 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Syrah, 15% Petite Sirah, and 13% Petite Verdot. Big wine with great fruit and acidity. Loved it. After Russell’s Zoom with Golden Gate Cellars customers and friends. Thanks Frank for organizing and Russell for entertaining us and more importantly making great sh#t! — 2 months ago
Stewed currants, caraway, coriander nose.
Bright thick start with Velcro to velvet tannic finish; wants meat.
Impressive example of Barolo’s ability to age. Thanks for sharing, Russell! — 3 months ago
New Oakville Vineyard wine from Michael & Andrea Savaiano. Michael is an Assistant Winemaker at Bevan Cellars. His approach mirrors that of Mentor Russell Bevan, with pure, concentrated up-front fruit. The wine is likely sourced from Tench, although Vineyard source is unconfirmed. Michael uses all 100% New French Oak including Taransaud Barrels! The wine spends 17 months in Barrel before bottling. Absolutely fabulous at this early stage for a 2018 Vintage. Cheers 🍇🍷👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 — 24 days ago
A definite surprise. Ready to be too big but actually its full body and dark fruitiness was tasty and rich. With Donald Russell steak as well, perfect pairing. If on offer at Waitrose worth another buy for sure. £10 — a month ago
This wine MUST be opened awhile before drinking! If you sip too quick, it is fizzy and disappointing. But given those minutes to relax and breathe, the wine becomes smooth, almost creamy, like a lotion for the soul. Ha! That perhaps goes too far, but it does evolve beautifully. The characteristic dark cherry is on the nose. Appears as a rusty burgundy in the Riedel glass....a fine glass enhances the experience, and I am not even a Riedel salesperson! Dark cherry velvet buttered dirt is what I am tasting. I like it! — 3 months ago
