Grosjean Frères

Vigne Rovettaz Vallée d'Aoste Petite Arvine 2020

Here’s a serious mountain wine that is LOVELY!! 🏔️🏔️

It offers a bouquet of vibrant, high-toned fruit qualities, such as grapefruit, mandarin orange peel, lemon zest, pear, just ripe white peach, and apricot, layered with white blossom, acacia, herbal, crushed stone, wet gravel, cheese rind, and delicate cream notes. 🤩🤩 It’s dry with a firm structure including medium(+) acidity and medium alcohol (13.5%).

It’s the Grosjean Frères, Vigne Rovettaz, Vallée d’Aoste AOC, Petite Arvine (2020).

The Grosjean Frères winery has been owned and operated by the Grosjean family since 1968. Today, it’s the father, his five sons, and their cousins, who collectively treasure their vineyards like precious heirlooms of the earth, meticulously tending to them, while employing certified organic farming practices.

These vineyards are located in the stunning Alpine region of the Vallée d’Aoste AOC in far northwest of Italy (north of Piedmont), sharing a border with both France (to the northwest) and Switzerland (to the northeast).

For context, Mont Blanc (15,780 ft elevation) calls the Vallée d’Aoste its home…  please take me there!

Surrounded by this dramatic landscape, you’ll find the Rovettaz Vineyard, where Grosjean Frères grows its Petite Arvine grapes for this complex, textured wine that saw sur lie (with bâtonnage), and partial French oak, aging for 8 months prior to bottling.

Cin cin to this beauty! 🥂🥂

@Vanessa A great cool/cold climate district Vanessa. We all must drink more wines from there.

@Bob McDonald Couldn’t agree more! It’s a small but mighty appellation, producing such a wide variety of black and white grapes, making a range of beautiful styles of wine!

Les Empreintes Extra Brut Champagne Blend 2012

another super champagne. A hint of pear, plenty of citrus and ginger, minerals and acid, very intense and refined, just a delicious bottle in the zone with lots to give. — a month ago

Les Clos Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2020

nice bouquet, fairly textbook fruit, minerality & salinity but lacking in breadth & intensity I’d expect from this Grand Cru — 2 months ago

Vigne Tzeriat Vallee d'Aoste Pinot Noir 2015

Pale garnet, some bricking already. Overwhelmingly volatile and Bretty at first but comes together beautifully with air. Really remarkable transformation. Sour cherry, rhubarb, roses, ruby red grapefruit, herbal/vegetal notes, bitter slightly oxidative finish. Tart, sweet raspberry and floral tones increasingly predominated as the evening went on. Almost gave up on this one but I really enjoyed it—a reminder that some wines can really rebound if given a chance to breathe! — a month ago

Beaux Frères

The Upper Terrace Pinot Noir 2019

Fragrant Pinot that sports ripe red berries, blueberries, rose petals, orange peel, nougat, black tea, sweet liquorice and more. Medium bodied, medium acidity (for this varietal). Nice level of complexity. Was expecting a bit more, but overall a refined Oregon Pinot. — 2 months ago
