Von den Terrassen Kremstal Riesling 2019

lovely lovely Austrian Riesling.

stainless-steel fermentation and ageing obviously.

12.5% abv

medium body.
bursting high acidity.

out of the fridge it's mostly green apple and peach. getting warmer grapefruit pith and peel, some lime, blossom and sea salt with a few rocks and yogurt joined the party.

and that's a party I'd love to attend frequently.

long long 🎯 with bitterness rounding things even more.

good stuff.

paired badly with pasta al forno made from leftovers.
a Chianti or barbera would be a better idea with this great simple dish.

sometimes the food and wine speaks different languages. but both of them knew their way with words.

Undhof Kögl Riesling 2016

Not at all like an Austrian riesling. This was restrained, aromatic and minerally tinged. — 8 months ago

Ried Kögl 1 ÖWT Stein A.D. Donau Kremstal Riesling 2016

Subtle and classy dry Riesling from the premier cru Kögl vineyard. Exactly what you would hope for: gun flint, river stones, yellow apple, Meyer lemon, and that classic Austrian salty/mineral edge. $25

More info: harvested late October/early November. Unoaked. 1200 cases made, only 70 imported into the U.S.

From what I can gather: Salomon releases different versions of Riesling from the Kögl vineyard, however due to labeling restrictions the 2016 is the final vintage that will see a “Ried Kögl”. Evidently all versions moving forward must be called “Steiner Kögl”.

Westhofener Trocken Riesling 2019

Sneak peaking on Wittmanns 2019 for the Morstein launching on thursday. There is no doubt that the German Rieslings remains one of the under priced gems of the wine world.
The Westhofener presents a pronounced intense nose, youthful but complex and nuanced aromas, well defined characters that is playing in several clusters. Lemon zest, white pears and plum juice followed by ginger and a prominent wet stone minerality over a savoury and salty canvas. A cut through acidity drives the palate through an intense fruit profile and a solid finish.

Paired with pan fried Salomon filet, creamed cabbage and a soy and brown butter vinaigrette with plenty of lemon juice.
